Your feet are about to look a whole lot fancier on the golf course as industry leader FootJoy and TaylorMade-owned Adidas release new shoes geared towards merging fashion with function and form with flair.
The Adidas shoe – the Tour 360 – recently won the prestigious ispovision Global SportStyle Award for men’s footwear. The most unique feature of this shoe? The lack of a sole under the arch of the foot. It’s got a heel and plenty of spikes under the ball of your foot, the famous three-line Adidas acts as a support system. To quote Adidas:
The Tour 360 received the first half of its moniker because it is a tour-level product built with the serious athlete in mind. The 360 comes from the combination of technologies it employs and the way that they “surround” the foot, providing tremendous stability and support. In fact, the Tour 360 offers the most comprehensive package of performance technologies of any shoe that adidas Golf has ever introduced.
The new technology introduced in the sleek shoe includes a 360° wrap in which the shoelaces do more than hold the tongue in place, but instead act as part of the support system, a 3D Fit Foam Sock Liner to create a personalized fit, and an anti-clog outsole to minimize the amount of grass clippings that cling to your spikes, robbing you of traction. Toe drags to minimize wear – and a few other features – are also present.
The Tour 360 will be available to the public on September 1, but you can catch a sneak peek on Monday, July 25 at the Battle of the Bridges, as both Retief Goosen and John Daly will be wearing the shoes.
The FootJoy GF:II has also been unveiled recently. The shoe may resemble a classic FootJoy saddle shoe from the top, but several new innovations to the FootJoy line are evident upon closer inspection.
First and foremost among those are the use of two polyurethane “wishbone suspension torque rods” beneath the shoe. Two plastic rods connect near the ball of the foot before arching back and spreading out, connecting to the heel. The goal? To mimic the foot’s natural axial rotation, allowing for greater traction and more comfort.
Other advances include something called the Dryz IntelliTemp lining, which actively pulls heat away from the foot, keeping it cool during play and a perforated alloy in the bridge to increase stability without significantly increasing weight while at the same time providing an anchoring point for the wishbone suspension rods. Gel in a few spots (the heel, the ankle collar, etc.) round out the GF:II.
Suffice to say, your feet just got a whole lot techier. Look for these shoes to go on sale within the next month.
