Playoffs? We’re talking playoffs?

Hittin' the LinksWhat a year we are witnessing on the PGA TOUR. We came into the year with Rory McIlroy being the undisputed world number one. Then Jordan Spieth seemed virtually unbeatable for a few months. Those two, along with Rickie Fowler, were even being dubbed “the new big three.”

Now Jason Day has joined the party in a big way. With his fourth win of the year coming Sunday at the Barclays, Day has replaced Fowler in the conversation or made it a big four. His 63-62 over the weekend was an incredible display.

Things are shaping up nicely for some epic duels in the future. And just imagine what it will be like if Tiger and/or Phil can get their games together when it matters. It’s going to be fun. Let’s hit the links.

Hole #1: Day Makes Putts, Lots of Them
On Wednesday, Jason Day withdrew from the pro-am at the Barclays because of a bad back. On Sunday, he blew away the field to win the first event of the FedExCup playoffs. [Link]

Veteran Kris Tamulis won the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic on Sunday by a stroke over Yani Tseng and Angela Ernst. [Link]

Hole #3: Daly Collapses on Course
John Daly collapsed Saturday at a tournament in Mississippi. Apparently the cause was a collapsed lung that resulted from swing changes necessitated by a hand injury. Daly was back at the course Sunday, smoking and reportedly hitting a few shots. Just Daly being Daly. [Link]

Hole #4: Golf Is Hard
Ollie Schniederjans missed the Wyndham cut by one stroke and thus fell just 4.5 points short of getting into the Web .com playoffs, in which the top 25 get their PGA TOUR cards. So, it’s off to Web .com qualifying school. [Link]

Brian Harmon made two aces in his Sunday round at the Barclays. He celebrated (at least in part) by treating those in the media center to drinks. [Link]
