Volume Four Hundred Twenty

Why can’t anyone hold a 54-hole lead?

Hittin' the LinksIt seems like the golf news was dominated this week by hand wringing over Tiger’s health/golf game and Caroline Wozniaki in a swim suit, but there was quite a bit more going on. And we have a lot of questions…

For one thing, what ever happened to good front runners? It seems like being in the lead after 54-holes is about the last position you want to be in these days.

Which PGA Tour pro is an astrophotographer on the side, and which narrated a children’s book?

How good is Kim Jong-un’s golf game?

For answers to these questions and more, let’s hit the links.

Hole #1: Sneds’ New Record and Mr. 54
Brandt Snedeker shot a record 22-under in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am for a three-shot win over Nick Watney. That win will help wash away the memory of 2014, a dismal one for Snedeker. Also of note, Jim Furyk has now failed to win after leading a tournament through 54 holes for the ninth consecutive time since his last win in 2010. It was his first start in five months, however. Hole #4: Dodt Does It
Aussie Andre Dodt beat local favorite Thongchai Jaidee and Scott Hend by a stroke to claim the Thailand Classic, which is oddly on the Euro Tour. The World’s Most Interesting Golfer led the young guys through 54 holes, but Miguel Angel Jimenez finished T7. [Link]

Hole #5: Mind If We Play Through?
I used to think this only happened to Howard Hughes, but once again an airplane used a fairway for an emergency landing. There were no injuries. [Link]

Hole #6: Welcome Bo Vera Scott
Adam Scott and wife Marie Kojzar celebrated the birth of their first child, a daughter, in Australia this week. [Link]

Hole #7: 38-Under
Now you can play golf as Glorious Leader, Kim Jong-un. Just try not to get a hole in one. [Link]

Hole #8: Arrest in Allenby Case
A suspect who used Robert Allenby’s credit cards was arrested this week. Still no clue as to what actually happened to the Aussie that night. [Link]

Hole #9: Shooting Chili Peppers…
Colin Montgomery was leading after 54 holes, but on Sunday it was Lee Janzen who prevailed over Bart Bryant in a playoff at the ACE Group Classic. Good thing Jimenez went to play the young guys this week. [Link]
