\"BagUp to this point, nothing in the current irons lineup from the folks at Cobra Golf<\/a> did much for me as they seemed to fit more in the game improvement category and were also a bit “busy” looking for my taste.<\/p>\n

With input gathered from their Tour staff, we now have some irons for the better golfer in mind with the introduction of the Pro CB<\/a> and Pro MB<\/a> irons. These new additions look more up my alley. I’m not saying I’m good enough to play either, but they pass my “do they look nice” test.<\/p>\n

Just how good are these new offerings? JB Holmes<\/a> used a set of Pro CBs to win the FBR Open (hitting over 70% of greens in regulation) and Geoff Ogilvy<\/a> used a set of Pro MBs to win the WGC-CA Championship (and was #1 in GIR) just a couple of weeks ago. I would say these new irons are off to a pretty great start.<\/p>\n

Let’s take a look.

\nPro CB Irons<\/strong>
\nThe new Pro CB irons are a cavity-back model that moves weight behind the hitting area to give you a more solid feel while still allowing you to work the ball. They are forged from 1020 carbon steel which provides a “soft, solid, and powerful feel” and have a thin topline, minimal offset a narrow sole and a “round sole camber” to give help players better turf interaction. The shortened hosel also lowers the center of gravity for a higher launch trajectory.<\/p>\n

The Pro CB come standard with the Royal Precision Project X<\/a> 5.5 shaft and and a 3-PW set will carry a suggested retail price of $1,049 with a street price of about $850 (2 iron and approach\/gap wedge available for $105\/club) and will be available in April.<\/p>\n

I must say that the Pro CBs look pretty nice and I like the fact they are plain with no fancy colors or decals. I’m not sure how forgiving these are or whether they are beyond my playing ability but that doesn’t mean I won’t be checking them out once they hit my local golf shop.<\/p>\n

Pro MB Irons<\/strong>
\nThe new irons are muscle-back models for the better golfer and like the Pro CB line are forged from 1020 carbon steel for that “soft, solid, and powerful feel.” With input from the Cobra Tour staff, the Pro MB have a longer hosel to give you more ball control and a “mid-launch” center of gravity as well as a thin topline, minimal offset, and the “same round sole camber” as the Pro CB’s to help on with turf interaction.<\/p>\n

These I have no business messing with (I know my limitations!) but they still look pretty nice and I’ll be interested to hear from you readers who are good enough to play a muscle-back style iron to get your thoughts.<\/p>\n

In the End<\/strong>
\nOther than the amusing David Feherty commercials, I haven’t given Cobra Golf much of a look in the past few years. Oh, I’ve tried a few of their drivers but have passed on their irons for quite some time now.<\/p>\n
I’m not sure if I’ve got the game yet to try out a “players” cavity back (and I can’t anyway since it’s snowing as I write this) but I may just have to give these a test run once I can demo clubs outside, which at this rate will be May.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
