Adam Scott fended off a late charge by Retief Goosen to claim a wire-to-wire victory at the Johnnie Walker Classic. Scott fired an even par 72 to finish at 18-under par for his first victory at the Classic. Scott defeated Goosen by three strokes for his ninth career title.<\/p>\n
The majority of the players were finishing their third rounds on Sunday morning after heavy winds on Thursday forced play to be cancelled. Scott was one of the players who had to finish his third round on Sunday, and he let his seven stroke lead dwindle to five after a double-bogey at 18.

\nRichard Sterne, Henrik Stenson and Michael Campbell tied for third, five shots back of Scott. One shot further back was Ernie Els, Brett Rumford and Colin Montgomerie. Montgomerie is looking to crack back into the top-50 of the world so he can claim an exemption to the U.S. Open, while Campbell has to be pleased as he took four weeks off to rejuvinate his game after struggling throughout the year.<\/p>\n
Throughout the day on Sunday, Scott gave Goosen some chances to catch him. Scott had bogeys on the ninth and 10th holes, but Goosen could not get anything going, stringing together 10 straight pars at one point. While Scott gave Goosen chances, he did a good job of grinding out his even par round by scoring birdies on the 12th and 13th holes.<\/p>\n
Scott fired an opening round 63 to set the course record at Pine Valley and held the lead for all four rounds. With his victory, the world number 10 has earned slightly over $7 million.<\/p>\n
