Taking the game on the road...

I had to travel to pick up someone at the airport Saturday and since my club was packed I decided to play a round of golf at a course I had never played before. I set a tee time and asked if I was playing with anyone and they said no.I get to the course and it is fairly busy but no playing partner however I easily caught up with the twosome in front of me (one of which informed me later he had picked up ball on the first hole, as the round progressed ). I played 5-9 with two guys, a dad and his

Season ends with injury and withdrawal symptoms....

Although my injury really didn't completely stop me from golfing, it caused me to be apprehensive with my swing. However, tomorrow's surgery will leave me in a cast for a week and a brace for at least 8 weeks or maybe more.  This surgery is going to be a test of my fortitude. I don't know if I will be able to work, I know I can't lift weights, drive a stick or golf for 3 months. We shall see if I survive. It sucks to be self employed in these circumstances. I will keep you posted...

Meh 7 holes closed today.

After getting 4 inches of rain in an hour, our course was flooded which was probably for the better. This gave me a bit of a break from the pressure of scoring but made the round kind of lack luster. We had holes 1, 2, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14 ,15, 16, 17, 18 open. Course plans to be fully open by tomorrow. I don't know, is it worth playing when it like this or should I have done something else today?

League Sourness

This year we finally got a league established at our club. It was a very good time and I got to meet new people. This being said, the handicapped adjusted scores were very sketchy, but only by one group, that won the whole thing. This was a group of women (who won last year too at a different club) that always seemed to be in the money or beating us no matter how well played. At first I was thinking that my teammate was over reacting to the situation but after the second to last format I started

I don't know why I put up with this stuff...

My regular knucklehead playing partner has been commenting to me (after handicap lowering rounds) about how these scores are not good because they will affect the scoring for our team in the hokey league we play in on Monday nights. He tries to suggest ways of avoiding posting scores because we need the higher handicap to place better. I keep telling him that I am not playing golf to win the league and have no interest in "strategically" posting my rounds to avoid getting strokes. He is a nice g

    • I continued icing the knee upon which I had surgery for at least a week after I stopped feeling any pain. Maybe longer. Anytime I worked that knee as part of my recovery therapy it got iced afterwards.
    • Not a bad idea.  Thx
    • I would suggest to ice as soon as you get home and don’t wait for pain. I did this through all my knee recovery.
    • FINALLY hit some balls this weekend. I did a short range session Saturday.  Hit only 20 balls.  10 with 8 Iron & 10 with Driver.  Overall the foot felt good during the session but I did notice I was not fully turning and was rather flat footed on the last couple of shots.  In the past that usually happened as the pain in my ankle kicked up but this time I did not feel pain...AT THAT TIME.  About 30 minutes after the range session pain clearly kicked in and I had to ice that evening.  I
    • While both of these are true, of the two I'd peg beer as the greater of two evils. It turns out the problem, maybe the greater problem with alcohol isn't just the empty calories, but alcohol also raises your cortisol level. Increased cortisol encourages your body to save/add fat. Chocolate, conversely, particularly dark chocolate, can actually help lower cortisol. I've all but given up alcoholic beverages. This coming from a man with an enviable stock in spirits (particularly Bourbon,
