Farewell to Golf?

Yesterday was beautiful early spring day in Ohio as is today. It is going to break 70 for the first time this year. Since we are now on DST, I would typically be thinking about going out to play 9 holes after work or cutting out a bit early to get some golf in. I would have normally been on the golf course yesterday for sure, but I am just not feeling it this year. I did a bit of yard work and took the patio furniture out of the shed. While doing that, I saw my golf clubs sitting there, and I just closed the door and left them in the shed. I don't know what is wrong with me. This is the first spring where I haven't been excited about getting out and playing since I took up the game. Could it be the fear of hurting my knee? I am still waiting on Worker's Comp... Could it be the courses that I would normally be playing are closed permanently. Perhaps it is because it feels like the whole world has gone to 💩, and the thought of chasing a white ball around a grassy field seems completely meaningless. I even drove past a golf course filled with golfers yesterday. The site of a golf course in the spring would normally ignite that flame inside of me, but not this year. I wasn't even slightly tempted to take my clubs to Florida the week before last. Could this be a farewell to golf?

I miss you on the forum...

All I can say is that I am taking every day one at a time. Perhaps someday I will be back to being myself, but I can’t see that In the near future.

In all seriousness. Have you considered talking to somebody? Like a professional somebody? It can help.

Maybe OT, but you are not alone. The number of people who have been steamrolled by the last couple of years is huge. We may not realize the full extent of it for years, but all of us, kids, elderly, and everyone in-between are living through some of the most difficult times this country has seen in generations.

I too recommend talking to someone. Good luck.

So my neighbor forced himself to grow vegetables in an attempt to shake off the funk. We get a smattering of green peppers, tomatoes and zucchini every week. He has really gotten in to it.

Another friend is brewing his own beer. Tasted amateurish but not bad. Lol.

Keep it moving @CarlSpackler. Do something.

Not OT at all actually. I have plenty to do. I have, well had, my band. The lead decided willy nilly that he wants to merge with another band and left myself and the bass player hanging. I'm not upset though. I'm tired of playing old people music. Not sure if I will look for another band. It's all drama and BS which is exactly what I don't need. I'm not much of a farmer nor do I like eating veges, so that's out. Otherwise, I am still able to ride my Harley.

So last week I did it. I got out the clubs and played. My friend needed a 4th for a golf scramble. At least if my knee started hurting or gave out, I could just play short game. My knee did OK, but it has been killing me all week. I see my ortho this week, so I can tell her that the PRP injection really didn't help. Hopefully we can get surgery scheduled and take care of this. I'm tired of being in pain.

Thanks man. It's hard to discuss something you love when you are not able to do it.

That is good advice. Talk to a professional golfer. They can help put golf back into perspective

How are you doing DMM. Still caffeinated I see. 🙃

I did play with a friend from HS on Sunday afternoon. Knee did pretty well. Still hurts when I try to extend it with any resistance, but apparently the PRP injection helped a bit. Climbing into those sand filled craters that I kept finding my stupid ball in was hell. Sad thing is, I par'd 1 & 2 and then went on to shoot 105. At least I have 2 excuses, wind and knee, right?

Hey Carl... a guy needs all the excuses he can get.  Did your insurance cover your PRP?  It didn't for mine.

Good to hear you got back out... I'm biased... I love the game, as infuriating as it can be at times.
