I like Fleetwood, but agree that he’s overhyped, at least for what he’s accomplished thus far.

Hell, even Danny Willet has more European Tour and worldwide wins than he does, and a Masters.

Speaking of which, here is a look at Tommy Fleetwood’s PGA Tour trophy case:

I see more comments about him being overhyped than I see people hyping him...

That's a great stat. Willett has also won more recently than Fleetwood.

Don't get me wrong, I really like Fleetwood and enjoy watching him play. It does seem like a lot of people think he's a lock to win a major soon (in full disclosure, I think I picked him to win one this year in a thread on here), but he doesn't really have the results to back that up.

Ah, the rapier wit.

Tommy's PGA Tour trophy case looking about as full as Hall of Famer Colin Montgomerie's.

For now.

Well when Tommy gets that many Euro wins, he too will be in the HOF. But Colin didn’t play much in the States except really for majors. He played on the Euro Tour when the Tour had a bit more prominence. If Colin was around today, he’d split time more like Tommy does playing more in the States.

Interesting thread.  There is no doubt that there is too much hype around Tommy Fleetwood; and based on his demeanor, probably not self generated.  Actually, the only thing Fleetwood did wrong, was to shoot too low, in a major and elsewhere, that propelled the media to proclaim his greatness.

This is not new.  The media loves to jump on/create a bandwagon as early as possible.  Fans see what they want to see and profess that player’s greatness.

It’s not his fault that his resume doesn’t support the hype. I hope he does well, but there is a laundry list of players who were overrated/overhyped early on.  Some eventually get there; most don’t.  At least he is a likable guy.

I say, let it go.

Yet an other disappointing performance by overrated Tommy haircut. Only T4 at a WGC event this week/s

Yep.

And his career pales in comparison to Rickie's.

Rickie's wins:

  • Wells Fargo (major site)
  • The Players ("fifth major," toughest field in golf)
  • Deutsche Bank (playoff event)
  • Honda Classic (tough course, good field)
  • WM Phoenix Open (February 2019)

Rickie's top five major finishes:

  • T5 2011 BO
  • T5, T2, T2, T3 in 2014
  • T5, T5 in USO and PGA in 2017
  • 2nd in Masters in 2018

Tommy's four wins are all European Tour wins and he hasn't won since January 2018. His only top fives in majors are a fourth and two seconds.

And his PGA trophy case is still as big as mine.

The corporate media want to drum up excitement for golf around the world. Grow the game, right?

I think he's what I thought he was: a slightly better than average guy who had a pretty good run for awhile on the world stage.

But again, "overrated" is relative: people were talking about him winning majors. It was a common sentiment, idea, prediction, whatever.

He's had a few good results in majors, most recently with a second place at The Open. That was 6 shots back, but still second place. He's a potential winner of a major, along with many others out there.

This is the photo used on his Wikipedia page:

It's apparently him, but I can't guarantee it. 😋

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
