Anyone Else Not a Fan of TaylorMade?

Just got done ordering M6 irons after several sessions with a fitter determined they are the best for my swing. 

I really don’t care about their marketing, or anyone else’s. The thing that DOES get me, though, is if someone tries to sell me on something because “it’s what Tiger/DJ/Spieth/Fowler/etc uses”. Not only does who uses what not factor into my  decision, but I’m also not any of those people.

I don't see any difference in the marketing for TM, Callaway, Titleist or Ping. Every year they come out with something that makes whatever they came out with the year before obsolete.

I prefer Taylormade. I really enjoy their Drivers and Fairway metals, I hit my Taylormade hybrids really well. I play their irons too (I think they perform just fine for a HH like me, but not wedges. I am using a taylormade putter right now, but wouldn't be surprised if I shift in the next year or so.

I just stick to 3 major players Ping, Taylormade and Callaway.  I take their marketing with a grain of salt.  I hit heir stuff and use what works for me.

Not true at all. Titleist, PING, and Mizuno (and Nike when they were in golf) both had a market friendly two-year schedule.

I have Wishon's book, In Search of the Perfect Golf Club, and it's a real eye opener. But, I disagree with "it's not the arrows", because it can be. If you're shooting crooked arrows, you won't be eating much venison! And, if it's always "the Indian", then why would Wishon be designing golf clubs? He'd be a swing instructor instead. 

I have an old TM RBZ 3 wood that gets the ball up in the air, and is fairly long. I absolutely love my TM rescue 3,4,5 hybrid iron replacements. My buddy bought them and couldn't hit them to save his life. He let me use them one round and I bought them from him. Loved them right off the rip! They feel so solid, and hit the ball much higher than my equivalent irons. Which is why I no longer have an iron longer than a 6 in my bag anymore! I still use the original hybrid I ever bought, a Cleveland 2 hybrid which I bought around 20 years ago when I couldn't get my 2 iron off the ground anymore! Never found anything better since. 

Yes, my bag is a hodgepodge, but it works for me. And as far as TM's marketing goes, if you don't promote yourself, who else will?

One year / two years?  The point is when you're spending $500 for a driver or a grand or two for irons, they shouldn't be obsolete so quickly. My TM driver is 11 years old. I compared it on a simulator against a Callaway Epic Flash. The distance gained by using the newer club was at the most 10 yards. Maybe for some people that's worth the cost to upgrade. Not for me though.

Who said they were?  Continue to get on a launch monitor and test your clubs against clubs you may be interested in.  No one says you must buy new clubs.  The newest club in my bag is my driver (Callaway Rogue Draw) and that was because that club gave me the best, consistent numbers I've seen.  No other club in my bag is newer than 2013; my irons are from 2010.  You don't have to change either.

I don't plan on making a change any time soon with the exception of getting a solid club to fit between my 3w and hybrid.  That spot is hard to fill for me because some 5w spin too much, cutting down carry; and some have too little and run too close to 3w/too far away from hybrid.

Also, I'm a big ebay buyer.  I never pay full price for golf equipment.

I keep buying TM drivers and end up playing my old Callaway Big Bertha. Same swing that puts the BB in the fairway will end up somewhere in the next county with the TM.  I am happy saying its me. Most of my buddies hit TM.  Maybe Callaway makes better lefty clubs.
