Good to know. I wish they were 3 hours a piece.

Yeah, seriously.  Although our DVR seems to know anyway ... the last episode was 9:00-10:04 and it caught it all.

But at this point, it's irrelevant.  I don't know about the rest of you, but last Sunday night, my wife and I were sitting on the couch at 8:55 basically foaming at the mouth staring at the TV.  We're not DVR'ing s**t at this point ... I can't wait 5 seconds longer than I have to!

I DVR it and watch Dexter first, since it doesn't have any commercials. Then I can fast forward through the commercial breaks in BB.

Hahah, love the dedication on this thread. I've never seen a show with this much anticipation before an episode. I mean, we have one member here who is completely consumed by it all :-P . But I can't say I blame him. Love this show!!!

Meth brings people together, clearly.

But I DVR it, wait 35 minutes or so for it to compile some data, then I watch it without commercials. As someone who watched seasons 1-4 on iTunes in a two week binge before the start of season 5A, I will never get used to commercials being associated with this series :-D

Never being able to binge five episodes in a row is something I'll also miss.... just like Jesse and Walt having friendly banter in the RV.

I'm going to have a meth party before the last episode.  Anyone want to come? :scared:

Only if you start the party about 24 hours prior and we have a season 4 and 5 marathon leading right up to it! ;)

THAT MIND-BENDING PHONE CALL ON LAST NIGHT’S “BREAKING BAD”
At the fan-response level, though, the scene also had two sides. There was the part that was directed at the Bad Fan who hates Skyler, and who has written entire posts on Reddit indistinguishable from what Walt said, and who now got his own language shoved back in his face, labelled “abuser-talk.” And there was the part that was designed to sucker the Prissy Progressive Fan (me) who was all too eager to see Skyler as a pure victim, not merely of abusive Walt, but also of the Bad Fan. Vince Gilligan, you cunning bastard, I am confused and delighted. In one way, this scene was “Breaking Bad” having it both ways; in another way, it was the best kind of text, evading the simple read, as emotionally labile as I felt an hour after watching it.

Why Viewers Need to Whitewash Walter White

Walter is a sad, misguided, good man. Walter is a hateful, vindictive monster. Neither statement excludes the other.

These contradictory emotions and readings are all present, all essential, all of a piece. People are more than one thing simultaneously, always. There are lies in truth and truths within lies, in life, and in art.

Breaking Bad gets this. The phone call scene totally gets this. That's what makes it art.

Walt is complicated. Walt is a mess. Walt is not easy to pigeonhole. But we do know that he has been, throughout the run of the series, a horrendously manipulative, dishonest, coldblooded, violent, destructive person, and now he's reaping the consequences of all the ill-advised or outright evil choices he has made.

It is possible to accept all these things and still root vicariously for Walter to outsmart his enemies. We root for Tom Ripley. We root for Michael Corleone. We root for a lot of characters who are, if you step back and take a good look at them, basically villains.

But as we root for them, hopefully we understand that what we're feeling, or should feel, is a mix of attraction and repulsion — and that when we bend over backwards in our interpretation of a show, to maximize attraction and minimize repulsion, we're making art dumber, and lying to ourselves about ourselves.

I'm embarrassed to say this, but I totally missed that he was giving her an out with that phone call.  I didn't realize that until I read this thread the next day.

I'd make fun of you, but a co-worker of mine said the exact same thing.  To some of it, it was obvious (why else would they bother to show his whole "lie rehearsal" during the opening?) but other things weren't as obvious.

By the way, I watched it a second time last night and I noticed for the first time (although they've probably been there the entire series) those hideous painted portraits of Walt, Junior, and Skyler.  They were prominent during Walts frenetic packing and during the subsequent knife fight with Skyler.  Yikes. ;)

Vocally, you'd never pick up on the fact that it was a way of protecting Skyler, but when the showed him crying the whole time it served to show it killed him to do what he was doing.

I noticed that, but interpreted it completely different. Ithought he was saying those things, which in some way he rreally believed, but on another level, as a way of sort of talking himself into leaving, or justifying his leaving. I think he has done that before when cornered, he sort of puts on his tough guy facade and hides his weakness. But I'm not as into the show as most of you are, and I see where you are coming from. Especially when Skyler apologized, ob the verge of tears. That shows she knew he was giving her an out.

Holy cow Todd really is a wacko! I can't believe he killed Jesse, Holly, Skyler, and that Walt Jr. was able to kill him with a spatula and a Swiss Army Knife like MacGyver! And Walt and Lydia sleeping together? What is THAT about?

Yeah, the sex scene between Walt Jr. and Marie was a little off-putting though...

Yeah. I thought they only got one "****" per season. She used about 20 seasons worth.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
