I love what the R&A is doing with the grandstands around 18 :

The R&A has a simple way to stop players from 'grandstopping', which you can see on the 18th green at Royal Portrush.

Looks like my front lawn.  Thinking I need to get out the mower.

Is there a reason Tiger is not better prepared for The Open?

I think he just doesn’t want to put extra reps on his body. The back is a lot more vulnerable than people think with him and I think he doesn’t want to push it or cause more damage. I’m sure it was hell from 2013-2017 and he doesn’t want to go through that again. I feel if it fails again, he will hang it up and not go through all this surgical process again. We’re on borrowed time with him. Let’s just enjoy it when he plays.

Wow. Guess that explains his majors record and non-majors record haha

The last group will tee off after 4pm? Are they going to play without lights?

No problem here in the UK at this time of year. Way more hours of daylight than you'll have in the States.

Love it!

Yes, his back is probably not in great shape. He'll be coming in with a possibly dodgy body, he'll be very stiff in the cold and windy weather, and he'll not be tournament sharp. He'll do well to make the cut, which at least will mean after two days the tv will stop obsessing about him.

Watching some of the practice round today, guys are having problems in the wind. They said if they were scoring, there’d be scores in the 80s. The 16th hole looks as tough a par 3 as I’ve ever seen.

Thursday looks like your typical "British Open weather" day. Calling for lots of rain and wind gusts in the 20-25mph range. Looks like the whole week there will be at least a 10mph wind each day. That should keep this from being a birdie fest like we've seen really since the PGA Championship.

Looking better for challenging weather.

I’m going to pick Rose for the win. He is a machine with the driver, plus his iron play is really good.

I spend more time than lots of ‘em. All while holding a full time job. Meh....they got it easy.

Also looks like the morning guys are going to get hit hardest tomorrow. Wind is forecast to let up in the afternoon. That’s good for Tiger, Rose, and Koepka if that forecast pans out.

Anyone know what the greens are like at Portrush?  Are they anything like Chambers Bay where the fescue from the fairways continues onto the green (and has no difference)?

Just looked at some photos of Portrush...damn fine course.  Best part - no cart paths.

Is that why John Daly didn't get to use a cart?

Maybe a good excuse. But honestly I just don’t want to see John Daly cruising around on a golf cart with zero chance of contending. I think The Open has tradition that just isn’t worth s*** staining with that sight. Harsh maybe, but just how I see it.

If you are worried about spoilers you need to avoid message boards, twitter, news sites.....yeah just the internet in general

but hey Rory isn't in last place - that's now Duval, but I wasn't watching, how in the heck did he do that?
