I agree as a huge Tiger fan. I just can’t take to Brooks. He’s not a very charismatic guy and he’s not the dominant destroyer Tiger was ( can’t expect that.) I respect his talent but he’s just a bore. If he had the same drive for working on his game as he does going to a gym he could probably make a Tiger run. I certainly don’t have any ill sentiment toward him like I do Sergio I just think he’s a total dud on personality.

He’s definitely different. He does seem bland, but not as bland as DJ. He will show his emotion from time to time and showcase personality in interviews, but not like Tiger. He can be a bit arrogant, but that’s a welcome change. He says what’s on his mind. He’s not afraid to call others out. He doesn’t care about saying “the right thing to appease others.” I do think he can be almost-Tiger dominant if he had the drive to do so, but his only drive is with winning majors, which he’s good at.

True...but DJ’s the gun slinger, smoke show girlfriend/fiancée/wife did some heavy partying, cleaned up and let’s face it, just not the brightest guy out there. He’s got a story. Brooks hits the gym and makes protein shakes and is bored on the course...His boredom is contagious.

Claude Harmon on Brooks from last week not feeling well, ‘ He’s about as sick as you can be..’

First, yeah no. Second...probably not the best comment to make at the St. Jude’s Invitational. 😒

To be fair, you're a Tiger fan but you're going to knock the guy on his personality?

As I understand it, Brooks is a cheeky person 😜

Just a little tone-deaf, yea.

Yeah nothing negative towards the guy...just a bore. It would be nice to see him laugh it up after a win and just show a little happiness rather then the mundane ‘I’d rather be in the gym’ attitude. Tiger? Yeah that’s why I mentioned he had the wow factor. When an athlete comes along and does that kind of stuff you really just get wrapped up in the talent and forget the personality stuff...unless he’s like Garcia. Brooks is like Alice’s replacement on The Brady Bunch, ‘Kay.’

“Obscure Brady Bunch for $800 Alex.”

He’s kind of dull, but has his good points too. He’s a fast player, which I like and he doesn’t seem to be a jerk, but just more self contained. He does call out cheaters and slow players. JT is a bit like that too on the course. He’s quiet and not overly emotional.

Good points...and again...I can always count on you to get my obscure references. IMO Brooks wants to be interesting and have people fawn over him but all the while remain aloof. It’s orchestrated and not genuine. He’s a bore, doesn’t want to be but doesn’t have the personality to change it. So the media tries to engage and he goes back into his mysterious/aloof robot persona.

They come along like this all the time. David Duval was dull. Vijay was dull. I just watch Brooks for the golf.

I thinks Brooks is very far from boring, he has a very subtle and cutting humour. The way he deals with the some of the interviewers ridiculous questions regarding emotions and feeling etc. is spot on. He had a few funny digs at BDC last week over the fire ants.

Himself and DJ are reportedly good friends and Brooks's comment sounded like a bit of personal banter. I am sure if DJ needed to, he can look after himself. I think Rory's comment was a bit naive.

Give anyone on this side of the Atlantic a choice between Rory or Brooks of who to go out for a few pints with, it would be Brooks every time.

I don't know if Brooks and DJ have been friends since when Brooks started winning, and/or the possible fight between the two of them at the Ryder Cup.

I have seen them reported as "good friends" I wasn't aware of any fall out between them, It's not something I would follow closely though.

Either way, I think DJ is big enough and bold enough to look after himself without Rory's assistance.

I'm just adding that I think those stories are old, and I'm not sure they're still good buddies.

I think Rory was just using that as a springboard to voice the fact that people get tired of hearing it.

On a side note, has Brooks made any comments on Reed? I could see Reed coming back at Brooks harder than anyone as he really doesn't care what people think.

When I was growing up, my friends and I would always imagine a golfer that was like a WWE villain.

We would imagine a guy who would knock the pen out of a kids hand who wanted an autograph. A guy who would tell other players to shove it. An over the top mean, badass villain

  • Do I think he’s an ass: yes
  • Do I think he’s a bad friend: yes
  • Do I think he’s mean: yes
  • Do I think he’s contrived: yes

Now that such a character has appeared, I am duty bound to root for him.

So—-Go Brooks, get to 10 majors.

(Spieth is still my favorite, but he’s been body-snatched.)

    • I always get adds for "Find your Eastern European Soulmate" I think it's a nifty gadget to have at home. If your going to do a dedicated putting session I could see setting it up. Thanks for sharing.
    • Here's the bet. Assuming the pursuit of a Tour card holds, who wins their first Tour event? Charlie, or this Russell kid? Bet is off if Miles Russell signs with LIV.
    • It seems like too much work for me. I'm actually surprised at myself for spending as much time on this as I already have. Shot Scope tells me my shots to finish with a 7i is 0.1 better than with my 50 or 55 so I'm just going to go with it. Actually, I tend to be the complete opposite. I've never faced a shot I'm convinced I can't hit. It leads to great heroics and complete flops. Conservative for me might just be someone else's normal.
    • Tell me you've not seen Bill play without telling me you've not seen Bill play? 😄 Just teasing @billchao. 😄
    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so. So… he didn't qualify, and he's playing on a sponsor's exemption. Jordan Spieth was 16 years old when he tied for 16th in a PGA Tour event… and I realize that mentioning Jordan Spieth (who has obviously had a lot of success) seems to argue against my point, but Spieth is the exception and he did better at only a year older than this fella. The odds are strongly against him.
