  1. 1. How many hybrids do you play?

Until I went out and got fitted (was looking for a 5wood primarily) I didn't have one.  The few I had tried I hooked like crazy and just didn't catch my eye so I couldn't feel comfortable with them.

Then the fitter had me try the 2019 Callaway Apex 3h.  The look is definitely more of a driving iron/hybrid cross and I love hitting that club now.  I've hit some of my best shots in recent memory with that club as I do still tend to find myself in the rough more than I care to admit.

Woods: Ping G15 10.5* Draw Driver;   Ping G Series 14.5* 3 Wood;  Callaway 2019 Apex 19* 3 Hybrid

Irons: Mizuno MP-33 4-PW

Wedges: Ping Glide 1.0 52* SS, Glide Stealth 2.0 56* ES, Hogan 60* SW

I first started golfing with a set of Cobra Baffler XL that had 4H, 5H, 6H and those saved me so much frustration in the beginning. Definitely helped me get the ball up and were a good option off the tee before I could handle a driver.

Now, I just have a 17 degree that I will use occasionally when I really need to keep the ball down and under trees, but still get some carry out of it.

Why not? I play a 2h in lieu of a 5w.

My comment was in response to the assertion that he doesn't need hybrids because he hits his fairway woods well. Which to me is like saying that he doesn't need a wedge because he's a good putter.

I use one.  I had two up until I replaced my irons a few months ago and decided to go with the 4I instead because my carry is more consistent with an iron as opposed to a hybrid.  It also allowed my to gap my wedges better.

I'm 68 years old and had three back surgeries so I need all the help I can get. I love hitting hybrids, so much so that I bought a set of Cleveland HB Launchers which are all based on a hybrid design. They are an extremely forgiving club to hit but perhaps launch the ball a little high for some peoples taste.

I have 3-4-5 Callaway Diablo’s. I couldn’t get around the course without them.

I have the same 3 clubs but Cleveland’s version. I do swap the 3h with my 5w from time to time but I’m not very good at hitting fairway woods off of the deck yet so they’re a necessity for me.

I don't play any hybrids at the moment, I've always fought hitting hooks with them. I ended up replacing my 2 hybrid with a P790 3 iron and don't see myself changing back any time soon.

That's funny because I found myself doing the same thing until I played the Exotics CBX. I'm currently not playing it as I pulled a couple older Nickent hybrids out of storage and dusted them off.

I need to update my signature but I'm played a Nickent 4DX 3 hybrid and Genex 4-hybrid. I went back to some equipment that worked in the past. I will being starting a thread on that in the coming days.

I never used to play a hybrid and looked down on it.  Then I found with time and not enough golf, my golf muscles were weakening and I couldn't hit my long irons with the necessary speed to get the ball airborne correctly.  I was actually hitting the clubs shorter.  I have now dropped the 3 and 4 iron and replaced both with a 4 hybrid, which goes what my 3 iron used to.  Fortunately or unfortunately, the 4 iron isn't playing well for me so figured out how to hit my hybrid with a little taken off and happier with it.  Of course, that might change if I am able to golf regularly, since exercising my golf muscles regularly (lots of golf is the only solution 😁) makes a difference to my game

What's in the bag

  • Taylor Made r5 dual Draw 9.5* (stiff)
  • Cobra Baffler 4H (stiff)
  • Taylor Made RAC OS 6-9,P,S (regular)
  • Golden Bear LD5.0 60* (regular)
  • Aidia Z-009 Putter
  • Inesis Soft 500 golf ball

I know that there are a few hybrids out there that aren't draw biased or super upright which helps with hooks. I think the new titleist hybrids can be be set a couple degrees flat which may be a great option. I may go back to hybrid at some point but I like my 3 iron a lot right now, it fits the gap between my 4 iron and 3 wood perfectly.

I own a Callaway Rogue 4h and practice it on the range, but don't really use it on the course. I generally hit the 5W the 4i reasonably well, and so far no real help needed with the hybrid.

I have my 21° Hybrid, and immediately put my 3i in the closet!  Can't tell you the last time I even swung my old 3iron.  Once I got used to the feel of the Ping Hybrid, I bonded with it so strong, that it is my "go to" club when I need it!

Normal fairway shots on the course: 185-190.  Off the astroturf mat at the range (full power): 200.

Right now I am debating on doing the same with my 4iron...  Should I swap it for a 23° Hybrid? Hmmm....

:titleist: --- NXT Tour, DT Tru Soft, and a few prized Pro-V1's

I am currently playing a KZG 26*U (5H) and a Callaway Heavenwood 4H. These help me maximize my second shots. But I've been leaving the Callaway Heavenwood 3H at home for the past several months, though it is good off the tee. Best, -Marv

I am with you. 5-7-9 and 11 wood for me. Get funny looks sometimes but that’s cool.

Right now I am playing with 3, 4 and 6 ironwoods. The 6 I bought as a demo to see if I like the TE HL4 line. So I will probably also get the 5. Then I’ll go 7i-pw.

If I could play regular hybrids I would probably have a different mix, but the ironwoods work for me so I will stick with them.

Squat when I stand back up I lift the kettlebell up over and behind my head and hold then repeat
    • Not sure this is the best thread but, if the rain holds off, today is my 1st round of the year.  Getting ready I can not find my Shot Scope.  I guess I put it away too well for the winter and thus that is may "Winter Depression".  I'm sure I put it somewhere that made sense at the time.
