How many do you play right now and do some of you not even bother with 3W/5W these days with the distance on some of these 2/3 hybrids??

When I go to get fitted I am thinking about going 4-GW, then go for a 2/3 hybrid if my gapping is decent.

I used to carry two but there was not enough difference between my longest hybrid and my shortest fairway wood.  The one I kept in the bag sits between the 5 wood and the 4 iron.

Poll added.

I play one, just a 2h. It used to be two, but I have a tendency to hook hybrids so when my ballstriking got better I pulled my 4h for my 4i.

I have a bag of irons, (2-lw) that are still considered hybrids. They were some of the first marketed as hybrids. My driver in this bag is a Nicket 4w. I get a lot of comments on my lw. I have been told it looks like I could flip pancakes with it.

I also have a bag with regular irons, (5-lw) three metal woods (3w-7w) and 10.5 driver.

I love playing my hybrid iron bag, although I give up a little distance. I like the shorter, more compact swing they provide, when compared to my metal woods. Since I also steer clear of taking regular iron divots, the wider soles help out with my ball impact.

Scoring wise, since I switch back, and forth between the two bags quite a bit, my iron bag is 1.75 strokes higher per 18 holes. Again, I attribute this higher stroke average to distance loss with those hybrids.

The good news is I have broken 80 with both bags a few times.

Hybrids are a great club, and have saved golfers many, many strokes since they became popular. As long as one can get the distances needed, they should be used, before metal woods imo.

I gamed two hybrids until I bought my new set of irons a month ago. Now only one hybrid. It’s a 3H.

This is what I like about them as well!!! I hit some absolute bombs with both of mine this past weekend and it started making the wheels turn when thinking about the composition I decide to go with when I go out and get fitted.

0 hybrids for me.

I had a 2 way miss with my 3H so I got a 3 iron and absolutely love it off the tee for my 225ish club and for punching out of trees.

Just the one, to bridge the gap between my 3-wood and my 2-iron. I go for a 17˚. Some manufacturers seem to call that a 1-hybrid and some call that a 2-hybrid.

I'm now 66 years old, and no don't carry an iron longer than a 6. Probably 20-25 years ago, I noticed I couldn't get my 2 iron up off the ground any more, so I bought my first hybrid, a Cleveland Hibore 2H, that is still in my bag! I love that club. As my age advanced, eventually more longer, and mid, iron performance started to suffer. My buddy had TM 3,4, and 5 Rescue hybrids that he couldn't hit. We went out to play, he brought those along and I stuck them in my bag for the round. What a revelation! I smoked those clubs!

After the round I asked how much he wanted for them and he said 70 bucks. I said SOLD! Unlike many, I took to hybrids right away! I like the way they look behind the ball, they get the ball up off the ground for me, and allow me to hit the distances I'm used to.

Used to play 2. Now I just play a 3h. As my swing got better I started hitting my long irons just as well with a little more accuracy.

I use a 3h,4h, and 5h. Start my irons with a 6i.  At my age, they suit me well.  With their 19º, 22º, and 24º they serve well for use before the 6i.

I have practiced them a lot and readily hit them fairly well with little finish beyond a light draw.

And, up to three years ago, I had never hit one.

None for me.  Ive never been a fan of hybrids and find that I hit fairway woods better.

???? How is that relevant?

Hybrids are not fairway wood replacements. And I'm not counting 7 and 9 woods.

I have a 22* 4 hybrid but I rarely take a swing with it. There were no such things as hybrids when I quit playing 30 years ago and the darn dinky headed things still look too weird to me to be comfortable looking at it at address.

    • I have struggled with the flip as well, and similarly have tried many different swing thoughts and drills to fix it with little success. What has worked for me recently though is this: focusing on keeping my right (trail) wrist hinged from the top of my backswing, as long as possible through impact. I have found that the more specific the instruction, the easier it is for me to carry out the action. In this case, the instruction is simple and direct-  keep your right hand bent back as long as possible. When I tried focusing on a more abstract swing thought like "turn your hips" , I've had a much harder time executing the movement. This video from Eric Cogorno really helped hammer in the concept of keeping the trail wrist hinged:    Who knows if this will work the same wonders for you as it has for me, but it could be something worth considering. Good luck!

    • Will keep at it. Obviously what I'm feeling ain't real.
    • Hello. I have Morton's neuroma in my right foot. I'm applying Ice hot with lidocaína and according to my doctor I have to wait for the next month to see any improvements or he has to do an injection. So does any one have experienced this ? Any advice for treatment or how to avoid this and other injuries? Thanks
    • No width? C’mon Vishal. You can do this. No reason to have that right elbow bending that much. No reason for the club to go back anywhere near that far.
