I want to start this post by saying I am NOT one of those people who has been bitching about how expensive golf clubs have become. For the most part golf clubs have always been expensive and if you allow for inflation then they are pretty much about where they should be. Plus, I will say this, I truly believe there are more ways today than there have ever been to find good deals on golf clubs, either used, previous years models etc...

However, Callaway what the hell is with a set of $2600.00 irons!?!?!?

I was mildly interested to see these when they came out, but $325.00 per iron!

Even I, the biggest supporter of capitalism and manufactures getting what ever the market will bear, had to do a double take. My first impression is "That's too much."

What do you guys think?
Is this an outlier that will fade away?
Or, is this the future of irons? Over $300 per stick irons?

I think they are just getting the most out of the market. I don't think the clubs will be that high across the board but why not offer a higher end set for the players that can and want to afford them?

PXG irons are still more than these...why are you surprised? Bet they sell out fast.

Meh. So? PXG demonstrates there’s a market there.

Maybe you're right? But I actually liked the Callaway Apex Irons better for 1/2 the price.

Fair enough, I just felt a great deal of sticker shock.

I don't know, seems to me I'd much rather get Callaway's Apex irons, an Epic Flash driver and at least a 3 wood as well, if not a 3-wood plus a hybrid, all for less money than a set of these.

I can see that. I had the same reaction when I first saw the PXG prices.

Fair enough but you don't represent the majority of the consumer base of golf products and neither do I. Me personally...I'd never buy something purely off appearance, a lot of people are going to buy these purely because of how they look. They are sexy as hell and super sleek looking...their is absolutely no denying that and a lot of golfers only care about how their equipment looks. Price point is irrelevant to these type of people...they will buy them up and they will feel good for a while and more power to them all.

I think this also happens with some folks when choosing a spouse.

I'm sorry, did I just type that?

They are definitely sexy as hell!  At the end of the day you still have to have a swing - it's the Indian much, much more than the arrow.

There are plenty of folks who will pay huge premiums for diminishing returns.

"What's a $90k Patek Philippe going to tell me that my $400 Garmin won't?"

"Nothing. But it probably will tell others something about you".

Then these clubs aren't targeted towards you.

They're not for me, either.

Not at all. PXG demonstrated that there's a niche in the market at that price point and other manufacturers have followed suit.

Nope, at least not in the near future. I don't think these types of "luxury" irons make up a large portion of the market.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't like them at all. They look like thin SGI clubs to me.

As mentioned and shown in the ‘stop conning yourself thread’ I think they’re getting a little silly with the lofts. A 38* PW? Two gap wedges? Like Erik said in the other post....you’re being conned or conning yourself if you think that’s a 7i.

I was actually thinking of my brother-in-law... but that's funny.

I can probably send you my sister-in-law's phone number she should be available soon... again.

    • It has negatives, too. And a heavier putter tends to "add stability and reduce a degree of freedom" too. Ban those too? What weight is acceptable to you?

    • I have been playing on and off for the last maybe 12 years and my handicap fluctuates like the tide. The friends who took up the game later than me now have single digit handicaps. I am so inconsistent, I keep hitting over the top.......just frustrated
    • 100% agree on the elbow. I thought about mentioning that in my first post. It looks like the elbow's probably too far behind. But at least as far as the angle goes, it's probably in the 75-80˚ range, which is just more acute than it should be. And given A6 club position looks reasonable I felt like the hip thrust was the bigger issue? Also, @IU426 you say in the OP you've been playing for 30 years. Did you start playing golf when you were 3? Or are you the youngest looking 40-something ever?!
