A Second Introduction

I joined The Sand Trap back in 2014 and rarely participated back then. I've just come back while looking for a broader set of forums to enjoy and looking at my profile, realized how much my game in particular and I in general have changed. I felt a new introduction might be in order.

Yes, my name is actually Dennis Miller, the same as the comedian of HBO and Monday Night Football infamy. I had the name first and I consider his simple existence to be identity theft... I'm originally from Kentucky, but lived in Jamaica for 6 years and now have been in Miami nearly 40 years. I'm a retired Youth Director and  Executive Director of a local synagogue and I love staying in touch with all the young people I worked with over the years. My wife and I have 2 kids, a son who lives in Jamaica and is an avid surfer and a daughter in Cary, NC who is a spectacular mommy. Unfortunately, I'm still the only golfer in the family.

My interests are primarily golf, playing guitar, a bit of cooking at home and mostly a matter of caving in to the every demand made by 2 small white fluffy dogs who call me Daddy... (Hogan, a Bichon Frise and Molly,  a Maltipoo)

Back in 2014 when I first found this forum, I was 64 years old, playing blades and holding on easily to a 6 handicap. Thanks to a couple surgeries and injuries to wrists, shoulders and knees, I spent 16 months without being able to play. I've been back for 6 months now and I've gone to super game improvement clubs, (Ping G700 irons), and now consider it a great day if I don't fall out of the cart. Contrary to all that's happened to me physically, I'm trying to get back in better shape and my goal is to shoot my age someday.

It's nice to be back!

Yay! We've found another one! Many here have similar stories. Use the resistance bands, get a recumbent exercise bike, and go get 'em! Keep us posted...We need to know how you are doing and what got you there. Best, -Marv

Good Morning Marv...

My Orthopedist is a friend of mine. He suggested early on that I could spend about $50 and acquire the same basic gadgets I was using in his rehab room. Insurance would only pay for so much PT and the nature of my recovery was such that he felt I could do physical therapy on my own at home to reinforce what I did at his office. I'm sure I got to play golf again months sooner, thanks to his advice.

I live 3 houses down from a park where there's a beautiful walking track. Until I recently fell and slightly injured my right knee, I was walking a couple miles a day over there. I do have a set of bicycle pedals I can put in front of a chair and pedal while doing pretty much anything else, like watching tv. Though my knee still feels unstable, it's not hurting much and I'm using the pedals to start working on that problem.

Here's the thing... I used to be a Cub Scout leader, a Scoutmaster and more recently, the Youth Director at my synagogue. The kids I worked with made me feel like I could live forever and I'd hate to think they lied to me...   That's still my goal...     :-)

    • I’ll go on the range and try that! Thanks for the feedback, I’ll post one more video when I do and see if anything improved
    • This is interesting. I don't have an LM of any sort, but is this open source for LM to sim? The website is incredibly vague, and though I use Discord quite often, I don't join random servers. On your clickthrough it mentions multiple LMs, but I don't see any kind of list on their site. Would this work with a Mevo? Would it work with a swing caddie? How many courses are there? More importantly, it sounds like you are already using it. How do you like it? *Edit Joined the Disc, and didn't find any more information on what LMs are supported. Looks like someone is making some decent side gig money on it, but I'm not really sure what the draw is. I thought this was going to be a SIM for LMs, but it looks like a league for people that already have LMs/SIMs. Maybe you can elaborate on the draw?
    • Hello everyone I used to be active here until my place was burglarized in Dallas TX and my entire golf gear, among other things, was stolen. Following the burglary and the pandemic I lost my motivation to play golf. Last week I moved to Vegas, and today my wonderful wife ordered a new set for my upcoming birthday. It is an all Taylormade M2 set which was on discount at Dick's; my goal is to play with that product price range until I score in the 80s again. I will only buy better clubs after I consistently hit below 80, if necessary. I am now looking for good golf courses in the Summerlin area and hope to join a community where I can find likeminded folks to play with regularly. My flexible job enables me to play in the afternoons during the week and all day on weekends. Vegas has transformed a lot. The Raiders built a stadium here, residential areas have grown and lots of master planned communities were built. Nice to be back on TST, it is the best golf community on the web! Nave
    • I have just as much fun playing by the rules, as not. Hell, probably more...
    • Nice!  Olinger can get around the table!
