My Swing (ahelix)

Recommended Posts

I've been Playing Golf for: 10 months
My current handicap index or average score is: 36.4
My typical ball flight is: Slice
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Inconsistently striking the ball (goes 25 yards) and MAJOR slice when I do get some distance (specifically with driver)

Videos: I'll get some better videos soon, but here's what I currently have

My (amateur) thoughts:

1. Moving your head - try to maintain spine angle and position

2. Swinging mostly with arms - make takeaway more 1 piece and coil

3. Trying to hit too hard - I don't know how to fix that!

Please embed using Youtube, Thanks!

Thank you! Two of the videos are from my instructor so I can't get the original video to put on Youtube. One of them was from my phone so I'm putting it here. I couldn't figure out how to edit my original post to fix it there...

Working on a few things:

  1. Trying not to move my head up and down like @Sclaffer mentioned. I do this more with the hybrid. Helps if I bend at my hips a little more when setting up to start, otherwise I have a tendency to come down as I swing--especially if I try hitting it really hard.
  2. Turning my head and looking up a little earlier to sync up better with my rotation
  3. Swinging more inside out (more between 1st and 2nd base) while turning wrist to get that "X", and trying to lead with toe
  4. Trying not to hit it too hard

UPDATE/PROGRESS:
I've been Playing Golf for: 1.5 years
My current handicap index or average score is: 34.9
My typical ball flight is: Slice
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Not making good contact, hitting it fat or topping

Changes: Really worked on fixing the follow-through to let my arms fold, still having to focus on keeping wrist straight for inside-out swing (vs extended)

Any suggestions/feedback on my latest video/swing? Doing more of a 3/4 swing until I get things down a little better.

If you are working with an instructor, I would recommend listening to them. If you’re looking for drills, check out these.

Awesome, thanks! Yeah, think I was just looking for some drills to supplement the work I'm doing with my instructor.

    • Sounds like a busy week of golf, enjoy.  Looking forward to some reviews on those courses since I've not played any of them.
    • Desire is a necessary component of coming back, but not sufficient.
    • That’s not how that works. As you know.
    • I've done some re working of the trip. I have paid for most of the lodging and actually found a couple rounds on groupgolfer that saved me a few bucks which was nice. I have also worked it out so that I will play 36 a day but one of the 18 I will ride on what I view as the days lesser course and then walk the nicer one. Partly to save more money walking the pricier courses and because I'll be just fine with taking my time and taking in a nicer course. I have a buddy I am trying to talk into going with me but he's getting married this year and dragging him away for 5 days might not go over well with the fiance considering we already have a Vegas trip planned for his bachelor party lol. Supposed to be warm the next few days I'm itching to get out I hope we get an early spring!
    • 102 and no excuses.....Yes the wind was steady to gusting 15-20 mph, the greens were stupid fast and there is still mud in the low lying areas.  Seriously, I thought the day was going to be pretty good as I parred the 1st and then had a wonky drive off two (wound up playing my 2nd from the #8 fairway (which parallels part of the hole), wound up with a quadruple bogie.  Not another par until 13 a par 5.  Best stat of the day -  10 of 14 on fairways hit off the tee.  Putting was better - thanks to better than average chips/pitches that kept me within reason on putting.  Also played with "new to me" irons that I need to change the grips on, they look like they have the original TM grips on them.  Will be interesting to see how they play when the new grips are installed.  Oh well - it was a good day as I got to play in late Feb.
