Nope.  We squeaked in for the win.  In some ways DJ was the hero the last 2 days considering he is coming off knee surgery.  That said, no Tiger... no Cup.

John

It was all apart of the plan. Tiger let the US team get creamed early so he could comeback and save the day.

Tiger 2.0 is as much fun. Has now truly added leadership, ownership and teamsmanship to his resume... He is a transformed man. That he went 3.0 is icing on the cake.

Props to Els on eeking out a genuine fight out of a mostly young team in a battle that has been historically a snoozer.

P.S. Kuchar's celebration made me laugh.

Leadership?  Good grief.

They got smoked in the team matches.  They played well as the prima donna individuals that they are.  If anything, it was a leadership failure.  But hey, it’s Tiger, I get it.

Congrats to team USA for the victory. For us internationals another defeat in this cup, moreover at home. Even worst to see Reed winning his match. At least tiger played well and won all his points as i wanted.

Congrats to Tiger and the entire team! Tiger held himself out of play entirely on Saturday, only to put himself in the frying pan on Sunday against the player who had been the International's best! And he handled his business.

This reminded me a little of the Ryder Cup when Ben Crenshaw captained the team. The U.S. was down by a ton, far more than this year's President's Cup team. We figured the Cup was over, so we went out and played. When we finished, we hit the bar and saw the Cup was still on! What's going on here?! Why are they still playing?!

Turns out the U.S. had stormed back and eventually would win the thing! Same thing happened to us when Jack won his last major at the '86 Masters!

Dude, right back atcha. Everyone on the team spoke of Tiger's leadership style.

"Leadership" doesn't guarantee a team can overcome having been on a plane for 26 hours traversing 16 time zones, having played only 27 holes as prep on a course that it pays to know and learn, the jet lag and busy schedules inherent in all of the above and a modern-day Cup… etc.

Everyone there praised Tiger's leadership, but you know better. Riiiiiight.

Leadership matters most exactly when the chips are down in my book.

But hey, it's Tiger....wouldn't expect anything different from you..😊

Why exactly would Tiger not get credit for the leadership he showed? Winning? He would have certainly been called out on the carpet had they lost.

I really don't think we even see any aspect of leadership on the TV coverage, frankly.  That happens behind the scenes and is part of the preparations and execution.  It's not motivational speeches and just playing assignments.  Nor is it necessarily a win or loss either (that's kind of a lazy executive approach to assessing leadership and it's a terrible injustice when it happens, IMO).  It's the comfort of the teammates with each other, it's the commitment to win, it's how everyone meshes and is able to contribute and grow.  Clips of the guys playing don't say much.....maybe watching how they interact with each other is something we can see on TV that's real I guess.

Any discussions here about leadership (pro or con) is pretty silly.  I have to take the team members' words on it.  It's the only real evidence we are given.

Pretty much everybody on the US team grew up with Tiger Woods as their idol. I honestly don't think Tiger has to do much to motivate those guys. Plus, these things really come down to who plays better golf over the week. I don't thing leadership has a ton to do with that.

Totally agree.  These are great players and they don't want to lose, good leadership or bad leadership.  We've lost so many Ryder Cups with great leadership and close teammates.  I'm very skeptical about the effect a captain has on how his team plays.

A captain strategizes on the pairings of the two-man teams.  He decides who to bench and which hot hands to play.  He plays chess/golf on who he pairs and sends out on the final day of singles matches... and the order.  The captain is a cheerleader, minus the pom poms.  We should give Tiger his due.

I didn't watch a minute of this presidents cup, but considering the US was down 4-1 after the first day and still won tells me they dominated the other 75% of the tournament. Thats a huge hole to climb out of in these types of matches.

The US was down until midday Sunday.

The ratings for the singles matches went through the roof.  Great for the sport.  (Of course, being that it was on prime time Saturday night couldn't have hurt.  Tiger going off first couldn't have hurt either.)

Just a guess, but I'll be willing to bet that the players have as much to do with the pairings as the captain.  I'm not taking anything away from Tiger, by the way.  I'm just making a statement about captains in general.

I downloaded the video after the PGA Tour issued a takedown notice on the first version of that edit.

    • Even on a perfect center hit I was receiving at most 1.48 smash factor. 10 days ago on the warming up for a round my Driver made a weird sound, I checked the bottom and it was cracked. Don't know for how long it was cracked but at least this time the crack was easy visible. Maybe it was already cracked before but with a more subtle crack?.. don't know. I'm waiting for TaylorMade to approve the warranty and send me a new head. I was using the Stealth Plus, I will take the opportunity and upgrade it to the Qi10 LS paying the difference.  On Sunday with my old Titleist 915 and softer balls I was reaching 1.5, even 1.51 on center hits. Test didn't went well. Only gained 2..3 miles, not worth pursuing. Figured out that with a ball and with a target, my path was way to in to out with this new idea, so in order to move the club in the correct path I needed to slow down to redirect the club on the downswing or aim more to the right, close the face a play a big hook.. not possible. I already play a big draw with Driver, more curvature is unplayable. Yesterday at home, with no ball messed around with a more neutral path, even swinging a little out to in. It felt a lot more in sync with the body. With a big in to out path it feels like my hands are working right, away from the body, when the body is working to rotate to the left. With the path to the left is was easier to apply force thru the hitting zone.  As always tested 10 swings with my current swing (A), and 10 with this little out to in path(B).  The difference was huge, like 12 miles faster with swing (B). I knew something wasn't right. The fact was that the PRGR was aligned more in line with the (B) path so it of course was giving higher speeds. I proceeded to align it with the (A) path and tested again 5 more swings each. Again (B) was faster but only by 5 miles. (Made a tiny experiment moving the PRGR to a more extreme in to out path and the swings register 25/30% slower for both swings, so it wasn't reading properly at that angle) Finally I moved the PRGR in the middle of both paths, and this time (B) won by 9 miles. Off course, this was without a ball and a target so.. I will be hitting the range tomorrow to see the real difference.
