Wait until the presidential elections.   They can predict the winner in each state with just a slight percentage of votes.   That's not to say there is a certainty but with high probability.    Sports analytics are the same.   It still uses the past data to help prepare for the future with a higher probability.   Statistics are nothing new but can and often are misunderstood.  

Most major sports teams use analytics to their advantage.    There is a doctor from Detroit that helped the Nationals with their sleep cycle.   Using past data, she suggested bed time, meal time, turn off electronics time, sleep time and they thought enough of her methods to utilize her data most of the season.

Not exactly, no.

It's more that future events take more than ONE event. Normally solid reliever gives up a home run to a normally shaky hitter… fluke, but not completely unlikely.

If sports could be reduced to an algorithm there would be no point in playing.  Thank Talos for adverse selection.
