Think about it....For me, I know it is going to be a long day..."When I hit 2 off the first tee and NEITHER ONE IS IN PLAY..."

This may be second but..

First is when I arrive at the first tee and there are multiple groups waiting to play.  In this scenario, I've asked to start on the back or went back in and asked for a full refund.

I hear you 100%.  And when all the waiting groups appear to be part of an outing, then I don't even bother taking my bag out of the car.

You know you're in for a long day when...there is a mixed outing waiting on the first tee.

Seeing a full parking lot, on a weekend, with a line up on the first tee waiting their turn.

When the foursome in front of you all head to the back tees and none of them get their drives to the fairway.

Actually had that happen a couple weeks ago. There is a group of guys that play at my course every Sunday who walk, play the back tees, and none of them can break 90. We normally tee off in front of them, but when we went off daylight savings time they somehow got the tee time in front of us. Let's just say that will never happen again. It was brutal 3 of the 4 took a mulligan because they failed to get their first drive in the air. The one that did get it air born sliced it into the adjoining fairway. We played through on the 5th hole thank goodness.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Same at my club, but these are 5somes who play the white tees and could barely hit past the forward tees. They usually get mid-morning tee times, but since the time change, they have been getting out first...

...when you get on a par three and there's a group waiting to tee off aaaand you notice someone in the group on the green stalking a 4-footer from six different angles. Yeah, pull up a chair.

Ha ha.. have had experiences along similar lines with beginners.

To be fair I have also been paired up beginners whose utmost priority seemed to pick up the ball anytime they felt it would hold up play after a couple of whiffs.

When my wife and I are traveling and get paired up with two men. You see the looks on their faces (thinking oh shit we have to play with lady!). I just smile and wait till she tees off and watch the looks after her drive. And then she proceeds to play better than them during the round. priceless!

Regarding your back tee buddies:  If you can't make a 3 pointer from 23.75 feet what makes you think you can make a 3 pointer from 33.75 feet?!  😄

When 3 out of the 4 players in the foursome in front of me need 5 practice swings before topping their shot.

  • iacas changed the title to Finish This Sentence: "You Know You're in for a Long Day When…"

When you pull in and the parking lot looks like a Walmart parking lot on Black Friday. Me and my buddy went to a course we never played, had a tee time booked in advance, and the next thing you know they check in guy says, Oh, we have some stuff going on today, but we can team you up and let you start on a different hole. I think the practice putting green had about 20 people on it when we arrived.

All in all, it went pretty good because the people they teamed us up with were really nice and knew the course well, but wow was it crowded. For most of the time there were two carts in front and two behind most of the day. We wanted to play so we made the best of it.

"...my nephew slams his club into the turf by the 2nd hole."  That guy is not cut out for golf.

BTW, I suspect that a lot of responses here are not of the kind the OP expected.  Interesting to see the different ideas of what it takes to ruin a round.
