Whoop Strap - Seen on a Few PGA Tour Players

So I'm seeing Woods, McIlroy, Justin Thomas, a whole slew of players are wearing these via social media, I think the company is promoting them, so I looked up what the fuss was about. The social aspect kind of reminds me of Strava - that's people who post their runs, bike rides and the social aspect gets everyone's competitive juices up and it people ride more, faster, whatever.

I've heard about this on a couple golf podcasts I listen to. Personally I already wear a smartwatch that tracks my steps, workouts, sleep, heart rate, etc so I don't really have a use for it.

I wonder how many people that already have a smartwatch would be interested in this as well?

As a casual athlete that doesn't already own a smartwatch or fitness band, this doesn't appeal to me. I'm not sure if I need something like this for my fitness goals and I'm don't like the subscription model.

I have a smart watch but pretty much only use it to track time, steps and sleep pattern.   I do nothing with the data and don't plan to in the future.   When it dies, so does my fixation on any smart type watch.   I don't believe I've ever looked at my watch and said I needed 500 more steps to get my goal , I'd better get my ass going...

I do find that even though I carry my phone with me almost everywhere, I still rely on my watch for the time.

I looked at the website and the membership just put an end to any possibility I had for something shiny and new.   Nope, it's not for me.

No to the subscription.   Seems like everything requires one now.... add them all up and it’s a car payment.

Probably fun if you think people care about what u post.

Yeah. Looks online with that silly Peleton nonsense where everybody has a stationary cycle in a giant glass room overlooking a magical view of mountains or skyscrapers.

Laughing a bit harder now that I read the entire article.  I’ve read about it before but the above link in great.

$288/yr to tell me when I’m straining doing an exercise, that my heart rate is elevated and when to rest/recover? So there is really a group of people out there that can’t figure that out on their own.

Whoop-dee-doo.  No, seriously, I am very interested, but to have to cut down on a few cocktails to speed my recovery time... hmmm.  But I might pick up some melatonin.

I can see the benefit for somebody who is a professional athlete or very serious about their fitness, but as I stated earlier, it's not something I need. It'd be like owning my own Trackman. Is it interesting and informative to have all of that information at my disposal? Absolutely. Would it be something I actually need given the cost, my skill level, my goals, and the level of my competitive play? Absolutely not.

I'm into fitness, but I'm not serious enough about it to count calories or manage my diet, and I don't care if life causes me to miss a workout. I'm certainly not serious enough about it to care about whether I've recovered enough to engage in an activity - be it a workout or a round of golf. I know when I'm fatigued. Beyond that, if I'm not quite 100% and not optimized for peak performance in an upcoming activity, who gives a shit?

    • Day 373 - January 16, 2021 Mach 3 stuff to demonstrate, not for me (I’ll do mine tomorrow), then in the few minutes I had between juniors and a group of five adults, hit about 15 balls. Less exaggerated than the previous time(s).
    • Good advice.  Lay a towel a couple of inches behind the ball when you practice.   It will be an eye opener.
    • Oh no...here comes the ‘ he was the greatest ball striker of all time’ talk....
    • Ok so I went out today and played a few holes.  Been videoing my swing and I’m seeing definite improvement.  I’m not flipping anymore and I’m starting to take divots after the ball.  On my good shots now I’m pulling in the ball left.  Any ideas why that would be?  I go to my pro for second lesson on Monday so I will get his input obviously.  Just curious if anyone else has had this issue.
    • I don't know much about endorsements, but despite that bit on the bottom, I don't think Thomas will be signing with Ralph Lauren again.
