Ian O’Reilly says he was forced to act after animal bit child on trail near Kensington, in state’s south-east

"Coyote attacks are rare. According to the Humane Society of the United States, 'more people are killed by errant golf balls and flying champagne corks each year than are bitten by coyotes'."

This is the most poorly written title I've seen in a while. I'd wager that english is not their first language. Interesting tidbit though

Capitalization is not the same as switching where words go in a sentence. You clearly knew what I meant, wheras in this title it sounds as if the man himself is the one that is choked.

I agree with @Bonvivant.  When I first read that title, it was very ambiguous as to who was choking whom and who died.

The writer of this article is actually English (as in from England) - he has a BA in English and another degree in Journalism. Looks like he started writing professionally in 2009...

I wonder if they taught clickbait 101 wherever he went to uni.... For someone who does journalism for a living, he is below the grade that I normally read. Like I said, interesting story just written poorly.

“Yeah, but...” it’s being written for the US edition of their paper.  It took me 2 or 3 times reading it to figure out what it was trying to say. But then again, I also stumbled over the title of this thread; thought it was about what other things (other than coyotes) these evil golf balls are trying to kill.

Back to the topic, it appears that the coyote tested positive for rabies. (Even though later in the article it says it is “being tested”, I’m guessing that’s from an earlier version of the Boston 25 article.)

A New Hampshire man fought off and eventually killed a coyote that attacked his family Monday near Judes Pond on the Exeter-Kensington line, local police departments confirmed to Boston 25 News.

Maybe not Wile E., but a well struck 3W may take a real one down.

We have lots of coyotes now in my town. They do get rather aggressive.

While doing volunteer for the NPS, my wife and I have had several dealings with human, coyote interactions.

In every case where a person was bitten, the person was trying to feed the coyote, by hand. Coyotes won't make the distinction between the food, or the hand holding. the food. Not like a domesticated dog will.

Example would be a guy who was caught by rangers feeding a coyote from his car. He recieved a ticket/fine.  Once done with the food, the guy leisurely let his arm hang down out side his car window. He thought the coyote was gone. The coyote came back and bit the hand that previously had fed him.

Once a coyote does bite a person, due to human ignorance, the coyote is killed for testing.

Yes, and older, usually hungry, sick coyote will become agressive towards humans, especially younger, smaller children.  but I never saw this scenario myself. Read about it, just never saw it.

The title of the article is poorly written. It's your glass house that I was referring to.

Probably no where near as much as it should have been.....  I'd hate to think of how many animals were killed due to that kind of human stupidity.

    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
    • I agree with @klineka & @DaveP043 above.  When a new member first joins the club they cold be told that they are not eligible for tournaments until they have an established HCP.  As you said, it only takes a few rounds.  If they do not to post HCP that was their choice and choices have consequences.  If playing in the tournament is important to them then they should step up and establish an HCP.  Maybe they miss the 1st tournament, is that a real big deal?  And if it is a "Big Deal" to them then they had the opportunity to establish the HCP. As for not knowing how to report for HCP I assume your club has a pro and they should be able to assist in getting the scores reported and I suspect out of state courses may also have staff that can assist if asked.
