Would OWGR assign points to a tour that doesn’t as strictly follow the rules of golf?  Didn’t we see a guy anchoring his putter? I assume there are other things, but that’s because of Sergio’s reaction at his last PGA Tour event.  I assume it meant the rules would be relaxed.

That is a very interesting point, which suggests a possible OWGR response to LIV: “What you are doing is, BY YOUR OWN STATED INTENT TO BE DIFFERENT, not really professional golf as it is practiced by all the other tours. Therefore, since it is incommensurable, our advice is to create your own ranking system.”

  1. I know comments were made, but was he knowingly/obviously anchoring?
  2. I think you'd have to follow the Rules of Golf.
  3. Slugger White is the LIV rules guy. Sergio's outburst was stupid.

What happens if more than 48 players sign up for the LIV Tour? How are the players determined for each event?

Let’s say you are the 49th player to join and you resigned your PGA Tour membership. If you aren’t determined to be one of the 48 players in the next event you won’t qualify for the no cut last place or higher payday.

If you are included then you effectively push someone out and they don’t get paid?

I like how LIV just dumps guys like Andy Ogletree (2019 Am Champ) when these guys sign on. Ogletree finished last in London and he is jettisoned to accommodate the Koepka's of the world. Too bad, but he made his own bed.

Yeah, it's like the whole LIV field is "sponsor's exemptions".  If you lose your PGA tour card through inadequate play, you can try again by Q-School, satellite tour, Monday qualifying.  With LIV you play if some hereditary royal likes you (or his delegated agent like Greg Norman).

Making assumptions, but I have to imagine it's a safe bet that the guys leaving the PGA Tour are getting some sort of guarantee they'll be in fields.  I dont think we will ever see a point more guys leave than LIV has space for.  But your last point is accurate, every new guy that joins boots out someone who has participated previously.

I would guess they end up with something close to 40ish regulars, then the final spots in fields may be filled by a pool of 20 to 30 lesser guys that rotate in and out of events, if the format stays the same

I wonder how many times you could have copied and pasted the above comment over the last let's say 20 years?

Maybe it's a good idea at this point to post some interesting things about the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia here to help anyone interested in putting what's going on with professional golf into the greater context.

This two-hour documentary by PBS Frontline is from September 2019, but it's still relevant to the events going on now. It discusses Saudi Vision 2030 (of which LIV Golf is apart of) and a bit about the House of Saud, who has been the ruling family in Saudi Arabia for hundreds of years.

A large percentage of the families directly affected by the 9/11 attacks have, as we know, released statements about LIV Golf since its inception, so I should probably provide a link discussing the likely Saudi connection to the 9/11 attacks too.

I also feel it's probably important I bring up the story of Fallon Smart as well, whose death is an example of what is still happening in the United States. Since that occurred in Portland, Oregon back in 2016, perhaps we will hear her story brought up by our golf media when LIV plays at Pumpkin Ridge next week.

Lastly, I hope this post, which obviously has a lot of critical links in it, is viewed not as an indictment of the Saudi people but rather the Saudi regime. It's important that I make that distinction because it's not fair to hold any regular citizen responsible for what their government is doing. Anyway, I hope this helps anyone who wants to know a bit more about why there is so much controversy over LIV to be a bit more informed on the subject.

Thanks for posting this.

Bad news Fireballs fans, your long and storied history is coming to an end.

In the dumbest news I've heard so far today, apparently it isn't enough to have no constants in who is on your team and even captains can change event to event.....I mentioned earlier that being a fan of a team in LIV golf is nothing more than being a fan of a logo.....turns out that even THAT was too much.  After one tournament, we have team names and logos changing.

Imagine how mad their fan is going to be.

OMG, that article reads like either an Onion piece or a news dispatch from a fantasy league for 10-year-olds. 🙄

New Coke and Coke Classic were both rolled out way better than LIV.   They could improve, but currently they ARE at the Onion level of seriousness.

This so categorically ridiculous. So unless you personally witness what is widespread knowledge to the rest of the world, it simply doesn’t exist in your mind. So you have no idea regarding the Holocaust? The 911 attacks? Slavery? All just just stuff written to which you have no opinion. North Korea citizens are as free as any other country? Rwanda/Burundi Tutsi war is just a rumor? Lol. You’re just being silly.

We just think different, the fact that we do don't make your opinion rigth and mine "ridiculous", or make me a silly and you the holder of the truth. Avoid that if you want to keep arguing with me.

As tempting as it will be for many to respond to this. I truly hope nobody does. Please, just let this argument die on the vine.

Perhaps someone has commented on this, but the entire LIV silly logo business seems heavily indebted to minor league baseball, where colorful team names and marketable logos have become de rigueur. Examples: Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, there are dozens. They come and go; some franchises change their names fairly frequently. Minor league baseball is very family-oriented, and kids like these goofy identities (reminiscent of old breakfast cereals and sugary drink mixes). The teams stand to make a considerable amount of their overall profit from logo’d merchandise. I like minor league baseball a lot, but how this strategy relates to golf is not immediately apparent to me.
