LIV Golf (Saudi PIF), "Mergers," and More

It is interesting reading this thread.  Two things.

1. I see stuff about 9/11.  The Saudi government didn't cause 9/11. People from Saudi Arabia hijacked planes.  Big difference.  In a liberal society, you punish individuals not collectives.

2.  Trade is how people who otherwise might not get along find ways to coexist without violence. The more economically interdependent people in different nations are, the less likely there is going to be war.   Economic isolation against whatever country rarely works.   China is much less likely to attack the US because of the economic relationship. Same with Saudi Arabia. The World is Flat by Tom Friedman has a chapter about how trade partners don't attack each other.

A good practical read that relates to the LIV Tour is The King of Oil about Marc Rich.  He got wealthy in large part by facilitating trade with unseemly people. The world was a better place for it.

We are not going into it because it’s political, but the 9/11 tie-ins aren’t bogus, people here understand the difference between citizens and a government, etc. Please don’t assume otherwise.

LIV has nothing to do with trade.  There is a world of difference between buying a Chinese-made toaster at WalMart and what SA is doing with LIV.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

DT and the USFL

Interesting reading on the way Trump handled the USFL.   Barely goes into politics.   Trump's talking about the disloyal PGA and how players better jump when they merge (ok, whatever) really seems to stem from being jilted by the PGA Tour and the PGA of America from those tournaments.   At least that is part of the contention the article makes.

I doubt Trump is anything other than a host for a couple of the venues.   The Saudis don't need any investors, but he seems to be happy to throw the PGA Tour under the bus.

Cute, but fake.

I went to the event on Saturday and Sunday. I did not see any signs like this, and I didn't hear any "FJB" or Brandon comments or whatever. It wouldn't surprise me if there are videos out there of these things happening, but in 2 days there spending several hours among crowds and various grandstand areas, I never experienced any of this.

That said, the fan behavior was, well, undignified quite often. But it was easy to get away from that crap.

From being there, does LIV try and promote a more "party" atmosphere?  Their marketing sounds like they are trying to be cool and edgy sometimes.   I wonder how that translates during the events.

II guess they were probably trying to promote a party atmosphere maybe a little. They had music playing, constantly, for example, during the tournament. Concessions were readily available and lines were short, and there was no shortage of alcohol to be had.

But it didn't feel like a party really. It wasn't all that different a feeling from the last event I went to, which was the Travelers in CT about 4 years ago.

    • Taking your dispersion and distance in consideration I analyzed the 4 posible ways to play the hole, or at least the ones that were listed here. I took the brown grass on the left as fescue were you need to punch out sideways to the fairway and rigth of the car path to be fescue too.  Driver "going for the green"  You have to aim more rigth, to the bunker in order to center your shotzone in between the fescue.  Wood of 240 over the bunkers I already like this one more for you. More room to land between the fescue. Balls in the fescue 11% down from 30% with driver. Improve of score from 4.55 to 4.40. 4 iron 210 yards besides the bunkers.    Also a wide area and your shot zone is better than previous ones. This makes almost the fescue dissapear. You really need to hit a bad one (sometimes shit happens). Because of that and only having 120 yards in this is the best choice so far. Down to 4.32 from 4.40. Finally the 6 Iron 180 yards to avoid all trouble.    Wide area an narrow dispersion for almost been in the fairway all the time. Similar than the previous one but 25 yards farther for the hole to avoid been in the bunkers. Average remains the same, 4.33 to 4.32.  Conclusion is easy. Either your 4iron or 6 iron of the tee are equaly good for you. Glad that you made par!
