  1. 1. Tee Times

Hahaha, yup Dave that’s what I do!  See, I’m on the road working and know I have some time and I know where all the courses are so I’ll pop in and as long as the wait isn’t long ( I know what I have for time) I’ll go out.  Or at least try to. Now I’ve given up on it.

There is a public course near me that will make tee times, but I never ever get to play at my assigned time. Somehow they make you checkin at the proshop and then send you over to the starter, who has complete control over who gets to go out when, regardless of your tee time. It is the most annoying thing ever!

I would have a firm, yet diplomatic, chat with that starter.  Almost sounds like the Soup Nazi from "Seinfeld".  Could he be playing favorites with male players?  You could also, more anonymously, talk to the Parks Department folks at the city and lodge a complaint.  Your starter buddy will hear about it but not know it's you.  You have every right to go off at your tee time unless there is a complete backup.  And your starter should be honestly communicating that with you.

"It just worked" because the staff and the membership knew to not bother showing up at those times because they are always taken. What would happen under Charlie's rule if I showed up at 6:15 and expected to play? In his words he would just put me with the "better" players even if I were considered to be the "riff-raff."

You could've gone out at 6:15 if there was a single open. Better just bring your wallet with you.

He was definitely playing favorites because those who casually walked up to say Hi (using his first name) would be sent out immediately. There are actually online reviews about this so I am sure the club knows about it. And since they are still doing things the same way, they obviously don’t care, so I just bring my business elsewhere.

Well, all these people bitching about tee times, reminded me of something. Back in the day, to get a weekend tee time at the most preferred local course, Mill Creek, you would have to begin calling in at 6:00AM Thursday morning! And you'd better get in before noon, or you had no shot!

With computerized listings, and starters with Ipads, it has all become so much easier!

No one understands the struggles of rich white men.

His example with the aircraft is asinine. This in fact does happen unless you’re the sole owner of the plane. Many of these golfers ( and other wealthy people) share a jet and can’t have carte Blanche anytime they want it with the jet. The same way when you’re a member of a private club: you share it with many others. What a dope CR is.

Nice.  Going forward "Flight Plan" will be my preferred way of thinking of a pre-booked tee time.  Always with a scheduled landing at the 19th hole.

Ha.  In politics, with bartenders and golf course starters one must befriend them and get on a first name basis.  That way, in order, you get the politician's ear, the bartender's heavy pour and the starter's wink and a nod with the words, "Go ahead, hop up there and tee off."
