Bet you thought this was about alcohol....I'm asking about hydration on the golf course.  I currently doing the GatorAde zero, but it is sweetened with the same product that is in Splenda..  I am looking for something that will provide hydration but not kill me....any ideas or recommendations.

Typically 2 regular Gatorades, one for the front 9, one for the back 9. It might be purely placebo effect, but I feel like I have more energy and am not as tired especially on holes 13-18 when drinking regular Gatorades with sugar and calories compared to when I drink the 0 calorie/sugar versions.

I'm not super familiar with different types of sweeteners and such, but is there direct evidence that the sweetener you are referring to is legitimately that bad for your body?

I like to mix things up, Ill drink water from home in my water bottle, or drink water from the water cooler on every third hole. I've tried different additives to put in water but never really liked anything so far. I am open for suggestions though. Gatorade and the like never sets well with me for some reason. Now if you do want to open this up to what I buy off the cart when it comes around.............

Cold water for me.  Sometimes I will carry some Perrier or other carbonated water, but they tend to fizzle and overflow when opened because the bottle is slightly shaken when walking with my golf bag.

I don't like Gatorade Zero or other artificial sweetener containing drinks as they are just as bad, if not worse, than sugary drinks.

When I’m on the course, I normally take Lipton green tea, but I’ll drink the water from our water coolers, which is normally ice cold. I generally don’t drink water unless it’s cold. Sometimes, at the turn, I’ll get a Dr. Pepper and sip on that throughout the back nine.

Here’s something I’ve tried that I like: take a 20oz water bottle that 3/4 full, then get a Sprite and fill the other 1/4.

Well my hydration depends on the type of round. Big tourney water. Pro am or recreational is coors light, whiskey, or an IPA from somewhere.

For hydration just water. I carry my 32oz nalgene water bottle that I use for hiking/backpacking in my bag. Usually just filled with tap water, but on hot days (rare in the Bay Area) I'll fill it with ice and water to keep it cold the entire round.

The "membership" program at my home course comes with a complimentary drink with each round, so sometimes I pick up a coffee or gatorade at the turn if the mood strikes, but I don't like sugary drinks, and the golf course coffee is like sipping an ashtray so only out of caffeine necessity.

If I'm doing my normal walking round, I start with a bottle of lime-flavored Gatorade and then refill it with water from one of the fountains after it runs out.

It'll normally be the same if I'm riding for at least the front nine. If the round has gone to hell in a hand basket by the turn, I tend to fire up the beer for the back nine.

Pretty much drink water, but I will occasionally drink a Gatorade zero in the very hot months. I do my best to avoid any type of sugary beverage (except beer).  I use splenda in my morning coffee and have done quite a bit of reading on its effects on the body. Used in moderation its one of the better artificial sweeteners on the market. The one big knock against it is it has negative effects on the beneficial bacteria in your digestive system. To combat this I take a probiotic. My gut seems to be just fine.

Water is my normal go to.  Sometimes, I will have a buttermilk or a Gatorade/Powerade.  During tournaments at my home course, there is juice out on the course so that is consumed.  I used to have a bottle of ORS and a bottle of water before, but have reduced that these days, as it requires me to remember and purchase the ORS packets beforehand.

    • I agree with @pganapathy about removing some clubs. I would recommend removing the 2, 3, 4 and 5 irons for now. Play with Driver 3W 5W 3H 5H 6 iron 7 iron 8 iron 9 iron PW ( you don’t have listed) 52 56 Putter Th 60 wedge can be difficult for new players, but you could keep that If your 3H is adjustable, increased the loft to be more like a 4H. Play with these on course and see if you can get a feel of the actual yardages for each club and especially the gaps between them. It may take 10 or more rounds. A par 3 course is helpful for determining the gaps in the irons and some woods too. A device like a Shot Scope H4 can really help give you your actual yardage on course.
