Has Your Set Composition Changed in Ten Years? Any Ten-Year-Old Clubs in Your Bag?

Recommended Posts

Everything in my bag is only a couple years old. I did change out my 3-4 irons for hybrids around 5 years ago. I've been using the same Scotty Cameron for close to 10 years.

I've always used an odd assortment of use clubs. Most I've bought second hand. I was given a bag of clubs by someone whose boyfriend left them behind. A couple of clubs were actually purchased new. So, the composition of the bag has changed a few times over the years. Most of the actual selection differences relate to the big clubs off the floor.

The bag that was given to me had a couple of older Wilson hybrids. I wasted a month or so trying to hit those before I went back to hitting the 5W primarily in similar situations. Just could never keep from pushing those hybrids for some reason.

For brief periods of time, I've also tried to hit a 3W. The rare occasions I've really flushed one are memories that die hard, but eventually the 3W comes back out of the bag after I decide I'm much better off sticking with 5W.

My irons are approaching their 10th birthday...or 11th...I'm not certain.  My driver, a Cleveland Hi-bore, dates to 2006.  I don't know, exactly, how old my putter is.

I’m still playing my Ping G15 irons, but I may update them this year with G410’s or Titleist T300 6-GW.

I added a Titleist 915F 7 wood and a 917F 3 wood. I removed a Ping G15 4 wood and Callaway Diablo 3 hybrid.

I’m not sure why I did this, other than I wanted something new?

    • 10th round of the year today.  Frost delay but we eventually got out!  Great round, a one over 73!  37/36.  2 bogeys and one birdie on the front. Back nine was solid 7 of 7 fairways, 8 GIRs. Missed the 18th green for my only miss.  Chipped to two inches. Even par on the back. Overall, 11 fairways, 14 Greens in Regulation!  32 putts. (Played Pinehurst #6, White Tees)
    • One person that has publicly declined. There have been others over the years that have declined before there was any public announcement. A few from Trump, a few from previous Presidents. I will disagree on the second point. As to your first. Charles Lindbergh accepted the Congressional Medal of Honor, France's Legion of Honor, and the Order Of The German Eagle (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_the_German_Eagle).
    • I bought a small sheet of polycarbonate at Home Depot, 8"x10", to place behind my ball for feedback on my mat. It was like 5 bucks. It is held in place by tees. You definitely know when you hit a fat shot...
    • I have never really held a negative opinion of Reed. Tremendous talent. Probably a much tougher upbringing than most PGA Tour pros to begin with. Probably lights a fire that makes him as good as he is.
    • Hit 118 during testing after doing my protocol.  Also swung my driver (without a ball) just to compare.  My median was 112 today with the blue stick and topped my driver out at 112.  I'd say the median driver was 110.  When I hit balls the driver is 110 maxed out and 107 at the median.  Mind you, I'm not trying to max out my swing when I'm hitting balls.  So currently I'm around:              Blue Stick               Driver w/o ball         Driver w/ ball Max      118                           112                           110 Med      112                           110                           107 When I first started I was around 102 hitting balls with the driver.  I'm playing on Monday so I'll be curious to see how it goes.  I've already played once since i've started and it feels pretty good.  I don't feel like I'm over-swinging...just being more aggressive.
