@phillyk, thanks for the link.   I just saw it on ABC news but couldn't find quickly.

This is from the CDC website:

Spread from contact with contaminated surfaces or objects

It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.

What is the main way?  Coughing, sneezing, talking... droplets of saliva suspended in the air?

Person-to-person spread

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.

  • Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
  • Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.

They are closing all of  the beaches of our county, 72 miles of shoreline tomorrow morning. All public beach access parking will be closed, and all Cocoa Beach city parks will be closed. No word on the golf course. I teed off at 6pm this evening and normally there is only a handful of us there, tonight there was a nice crowd. Must be preparing for the inevitable.

Very sad.

Update. Beaches will remain open, all the parking areas will be closed to prevent large groups being on the beach in close proximity. Which I don't mind, the Spring breakers and day visitors from Orlando or wherever leave their trash all over the place, so I kind of like it.

A new England super market, Stop and Shop, set aside Thursday morning from 6 to 7:30 for seniors to shop. Sounded nice. I'm up early so decided to head there. Big mistake. It was packed, Black Friday packed. At 6;30 there were no shopping carts available, 20 people at the deli counter, and already long lines to check out.

Public transportation ridership was down here, so the T dropped some trains. Result? More people in fewer cars. No plan.

We need to be looking for ways to spread shopping/people out, not condense it into a smaller window.

End rant......

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of doing that (just turned 60).

One funny side story: Last week when Stop & Shop, Market Basket, BJs, etcs were all packed, my wife decided to go to a Shaw's in Burlington that never really caught on due to a crappy location. She found everything there and it wasn't packed. My neighbor said, "Nobody ever goes to Shaws!":-P

Its just my wife and I, both retired. I'll go back at 10AM. let the madness calm down and the young whipper snappers should be at work, funding my retirement.

My usual golfing haunt has advised 2 of the 3 courses are open for play. Just pay online or via phone. Obviously restrictions are in place regarding flagsticks and rakes but other than that people are welcome to play.

I would love to get some play in but not sure I will. Will stick to chipping and putting and hittng foam balls in the garden till further notice.

Me too. I have heard that what surface matters. For example, 3-5 hours on fabric and up to a few days on metal

So they were allowing younger people to shop during the designated senior window? That seems like the problem. When I first heard of stores doing this, I thought it was a great idea as long as it was confined to the elderly.

Brilliant.  Move all those people from 72 miles of outdoor space to someplace indoors...

Are the beaches closed, or just the parking?  Last I heard it was just the parking...

Never mind.  I just saw your correction.

No, it was just the elderly. But instead of them shopping say, 7-4, they were there at 6. Younger folks tend to shop after work.

I am curious if people should post scores for handicap when the holes are cut like this. 🤔

A quick interpretation, my own personal opinion, and this may not be in exact accordance with the Handicap Rules.  I'd suggest that you record your Most Likely Score, as outlined in the Handicap Rules.  Certainly this works for balls that stop near the cup, but might be a little more problematic for a ball that strikes the raised cup liner.  In that case, I expect you should use your best judgement as to whether the ball would have gone in the hole (speed and line are both right) or whether it would have missed.  The only other course of action is not to post at all.  I suggest that you ask the pro of committee, if there is one.

I would hate to be a discussion re a hole in one for a ball that strikes the cup.....If it were my ball i would not take it. talk about needing an *.

From that far away, you wouldn't know it it hit the raised cup liner or the flagstick, I wouldn't count it for an ace either.  But again, my suggested procedure is only a suggestion, loosely based on the actual Rules for both play and handicap.  If anyone wants a real answer, they should ask their local authorities.

    • Hit my tee shot just into the penalty area and barely found it. Swung hard just in case I hit it. It was slightly downhill with a heavy tailwind. I don't actually hit my 9i 170 yards.
    • Right. The difference between being 120 out and 70 out for me (this is the important part) is negligible and not worth putting other risks into play off the tee.   Ok the argument against driver is that my shot cone is comically large. It puts every possible outcome into play. You can't see the green from the tee so there's a good chance I'd have to wait for it to clear which would slow down play. That's the third tee right in the middle of the firing range there. I really don't want to wait just to hit a terrible shot and I especially don't want to injure somebody. Yea I have no problem playing out of the rough short of the bunker if I'm just going to lay up short of the bunker, but I absolutely need to avoid flaring it right into the penalty area if I'm going to be laying up in the first place. As a general strategy I understand where you're coming from. But since we're specifically talking about me (this is a shot I'm going to have to hit on Saturday), I think the cost is fairly marginal. I hit the ball 8' closer on average from 50-100 than I do from 100-150 from the fairway and rough and the green success % difference is 4%. Bunker might as well be a penalty drop. Based on the data,  Here's my SG:A data compared to a 10: I honestly don't know how to use SG for decision making. That's why I was mostly looking at proximity to hole and green success rate for comparison. I mostly use SG as a way to track my progress. All good. Like I said, I appreciate the discussion. It makes me think. If I didn't want to see alternative/opposing viewpoints to my own I just wouldn't post anything. You should post it! In your own swing thread, of course. It's been a fun exercise.
    • Played my first 2024 round at Pierce Lake. Boomed my first drive down #10 fairway, then slowly slipped into mediocrity. 83 (69.6/131). The high point was going 2 of 4 on sand saves. My sand game is pretty marginal but today I must have discovered the secret for a couple hours.
