Same here, just announced yesterday.  Our Florida Courses have been classified as essential.  Our Northern course just got reclassified as essential.  Only open Fri-Sun 1-6 for now.  1 per cart. No pairings with strangers.  No clubhouse.  Online payments only.  No rakes.  No touching flagsticks.  Disinfect carts before and after.

I meant to say my Northern course is now open 7:30-1:00, with carts needing to be in by 6:00, Fri-Sun.

I've been watching tee times online, and no one is playing.  I don't even see the members taking tee times.

Here is NY, Cuomo is pretty tone def. I don’t see why now to close golf courses. Maybe Close mid March and re open now if anything. Looks like a poor reactive decision based on ineptitude. That is his m.o.  sorry for the political view. Just annoyed by poor leadership in this state.

Beaches?

Ours was the last beach open in SW FL the big Spring Break weekend.  On that Saturday, there were people from all over overrunning our beaches, parking everywhere, anywhere.  If we were to have an outbreak from that, it would be about now.  Actually, officials are expecting our peak in 10 days.

That Sunday @ 6:00 AM, our beaches were closed, and all the outsiders left.  A few days later, the County put Beach Closed signs on the little streets that end at the beach, and that ended the outsiders parking.  Locals within walking distance are still going to the beach and a remote pay parking lot that is free now is normally full.

Deputies are patrolling . . . more police protection than normal.

But, the private beach clubs still have a lot of cars in their parking lots on beachy days.

The beach resorts have shut down, except for the timeshares (which have owners).  But even those are down to a half-dozen cars.

Good timing, actually, because we are getting beach replenishment, and that has to be done by May, sea turtle season.  The replenishment team is to where they have half a public beach, and then six private properties, and they're done.  They already did the other main public beach, which would have been shut down for that anyway.

Now that the Snowbirds have left, shopping is civilized again.  The line is set up at our WalMart, but I did not have to wait at 8:15 this morning.  I got our preferred brand of TP, 2-ply, big rolls, multi-pack.  I heard we may need to take some north, because the hoarding is just hitting there now.

I must say that I now think I have played with all the flag /hole options that I have heard of in Covid times: Flagstick normal, cup insert so that ball is partcially below hole, swim noodle insert (ball goes in but not as deep), and cup raised above the ground (you hit it it's considered in).  Quite frankly, the cup insert and swim noodle can stay as far as I'm concerned.  It's easier to get the ball out with the flagstick in and I don't see how the swallower cup is going to change whether balls go in or not.  The raised cup is interesting - you feel like you can just hit solid putts right at it without fear.  I made almost every knee knocker today, and they were all dead center and would have gone in anyway.  It's a visual that I need to remind myself of the next time I play with a regular flag.  My partner, however, crushed two putts from deep that hit the raised cup hard and ricocheted hard - a good laugh.

There's some hope that the PA golf courses will open soon.

In Colorado, there are people petitioning to close golf courses.  Even though only some courses are open and are taking precautions like other states that have courses open, there are people who wants to close golf courses too.

I am hoping by the time the petition gets serious considerations, they will loosen up the rules.

Although when I played on Thursday, some people were not keeping 6' distance on the tee box or the greens.  More like 2-4 feet.  And some people (including me) wore a mask when playing.

My friend said he heard that Wolf has heard from golfers and said they may be open on May 1. I don't know where he heard this but my buddy called me specifically to tell me this.

I'm not reading or watching news past headlines. I've been more relaxed since I stopped.

But it's only April 11, so I don't know if I'd call May 1 "soon."

Well the weather is always spotty until then anyway. Won't miss many playable days.

You must only play when it's 60°+. We've missed four playable days in the last seven, and on two of the three that I'm not counting we got snow.

I'll go down to the 50s if it's sunny. I refuse to wear pants when I play golf.

That’s me, but it has to be on the higher side of 60s.

Amen.  Although I note some Phoenix Metro courses have voluntarily closed.  After the snowbirds left of course.

More and more courses are starting to open up here in the Denver area. The one I play most frequently will be opening back up on Saturday. And then aerating Monday.

Why they couldn't aerate when the course was closed, I have no idea. Maintenance was allowed while the course was closed for play. I won't be able to play for a while anyways, but it's still annoying.

Because that would make sense. I've wondering the same thing about courses here. Why not punch them while they are closed, but most courses are open with restrictions now.

    • Here's the bet. Assuming the pursuit of a Tour card holds, who wins their first Tour event? Charlie, or this Russell kid? Bet is off if Miles Russell signs with LIV.
    • It seems like too much work for me. I'm actually surprised at myself for spending as much time on this as I already have. Shot Scope tells me my shots to finish with a 7i is 0.1 better than with my 50 or 55 so I'm just going to go with it. Actually, I tend to be the complete opposite. I've never faced a shot I'm convinced I can't hit. It leads to great heroics and complete flops. Conservative for me might just be someone else's normal.
    • Tell me you've not seen Bill play without telling me you've not seen Bill play? 😄 Just teasing @billchao. 😄
    • And like Matt said, and I have hinted at… it's ONE ROUND. Because you have to get hot. Better players than him failed to get through. And… Peaked too soon, perhaps. He could also get injured, get surpassed, lose interest or lose his game… Again, if I trusted y'all to uphold the bet, and if the bet wasn't basically a 15-year proposition… I'd bet y'all. The odds are against him, and heavily so. So… he didn't qualify, and he's playing on a sponsor's exemption. Jordan Spieth was 16 years old when he tied for 16th in a PGA Tour event… and I realize that mentioning Jordan Spieth (who has obviously had a lot of success) seems to argue against my point, but Spieth is the exception and he did better at only a year older than this fella. The odds are strongly against him.
    • He shot -5 with a bogey on the last hole. Those Monday Q events are seriously tough to get through. Lots of very very good players play in those, including normally a fair few tour players who've lost their cards, including past winners. It is a small sample size, but he also just broke one of Tiger's records (youngest ever to be ranked one in AJGA if memory serves). He's the best 15 year old in the world at the moment. He's also pretty small and skinny - if he grows and fills out a bit and gets stronger, he could be a serious force to be reckoned with. He may of course also go off the boil and struggle or his swing may not last his growth or something, so it's not like he's odds on to make it or anything like that. I think it will be interesting to see how he progresses and if (big if granted) he progresses well, then he will be quite the prospect.
