Don't see a we're open post from Bethpage, but I wouldn't go play anyway.

Golf courses have been in a gray area since New York State shut down non-essential businesses last month. At first, some were open and bustling on...

However, golf courses are not essential and cannot have employees working on-premise; notwithstanding this restriction, essential services, such as groundskeeping to avoid hazardous conditions and security, provided by employees, contractors, or vendors are permitted and private operators may permit individuals access to the property so long as there are no gatherings of any kind and appropriate social distancing of six feet between individuals is strictly abided

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

A few courses on Long Island have updated their websites. Open. Walking only must pay 24 hours in advance. Bethpage is state run will not open right away. County courses will open up soon. They will need to figure out upfront payments for green fees.

Quite a few courses here require prepayment when booking a tee time on line....some will only allow 4some bookings only too......show up with few players....SOL....no walk-ons to pair up.

Why the hell would they go to a crowded STORE to do that?

If we all did the right, responsible things, we'd be in a better place and could begin to transition back to "normalcy" sooner.

I'm going to share a "truth" with you.  For some people, if they can't see it, it doesn't exist.  They all skipped or flunked their science classes in school.

@Double Mocha Man what about history and economics?

all 3 very important right now. Balance needs to be struck as you can’t focus on 1 and the let the others fall to the waste side.

Answer everything with whataboutism: it's a proven way (waste?!?) to argue things these days.

... to the way side. Also, what about english?

But whatever, go into crowded areas and ruin it for everybody else, and yourself and then complain when yourself, your parents or grandparents did not survive this "tragedy".

When Americans can’t pay their bills because the company they work for or owned are gone, what happens?  Is it okay to trample our freedom? Do you advocate more Government? Please stop with the fear mongering and with this nonsense.

Can we just end this conversation? Obviously this is important, but relax.

Apparently private golf courses in NY can open for play. Basically any course that does not allow for onsite transactions or employees. Grounds keepers can work now but only security staff can work. Again no green fee transactions on site.

I can’t say this enough Governor Cuomo is a moron. This just shows how stupid his decision or should I say half assed decision he made.

NY is by far the worst hit. Makes you wonder about its lack of leaders.

He waived it for private courses not too long after he closed all courses. My take is that he got pressure from members at private clubs, fellow politicians, attorneys, lobbyists. I just moved to WNY and was undecided on where to play, but now I am now definitely leaning to a private course. I had been thinking of staying a free agent and playing some different course until I got settled in, but you never know when the public ones may open.

Definitely politics in play with all of this for sure, plus bureaucrats are getting off on this extra power.

Ventura County, not too far from me, is reopening courses soon.  I imagine they'll be quite busy.  I might not even have to imagine it.

Riverside County is discussing it, even though they had previously said they were closed until middle of June at the earliest.

They've "clarified" the statement and said that public courses can also open if they follow distancing guidelines. State-run courses are closed but otherwise, it's up to the operators.

My course and another in the area re-opened. No carts, no inside access, maintain 6' distancing and "if they catch you'll they'll ask you to leave."  So far, I've just seen a couple grounds crew, I doubt they're worrying about how close people are getting to each other.

Courses in the Denver area are pretty much all open now, as far as I can tell. All of them have the same restrictions: don't touch the flag, don't get within 6 feet of each other, pay over the phone or online, no rakes in bunkers, etc. The only thing that I find a little interesting is that practice facilities are pretty much all closed. I don't think there's a single driving range open, and most have closed putting or chipping greens. I know of one course that will let you putt on the putting green before the round, but that's it. While it makes sense to close areas where people will gather and get close to each other, I wonder how long that will last.

Clarification came too late, I guess. I joined a private course yesterday.

One if the local munis here got slapped. They were open, collecting green fees, and selling booze despite the WA order to be closed. Rumor is they lost their liquor license and probably got a hefty enough fine. There are courses that aren’t enforcing the no play, but they aren’t trying to make money on people playing.

Huh, Riverside County is opening too.  It doesn't help my brain that the closest open golf course to my house is Corona.

Courses reopened yesterday, played 9 today, playing 18 tomorrow. The overall play was better than expected not hitting a full shot outdoors for 4 months. Had problems with weight transfer and straight out missing the ball with my driver and badly topping it. Hopefully tomorrow I can hit 20 drives on the range before I go out. Chipping and putting were on point though...

    • However, have you ever considered using small summer houses for such setups? They offer a great solution for creating dedicated practice areas, especially for an affluent audience looking to enhance their outdoor living space.
    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
