It's just not done in golf.

I have two videos sitting on my desktop right now. They're videos of lessons taught by top 50 guys. They're HORRIBLE f***ing lessons. They're atrocious.

And I think a lot of other very good instructors would agree.

But it's just not done.

Hell, look at how poorly some people on here who are NOT making their living teaching golf (or teaching how to teach golf) take things. Imagine how poorly someone who does earn a living doing this stuff would take it.

You’re right. I’m just saying make waves and get over this silly thin skin attitude. You handle it well. They should be able to as well.  If they can’t stand the heat get outta the kitchen. Stand your ground and make an argument. If you can’t..so be it. It seems to me the ‘protect the field’ attitude should be upheld in instruction as well. If you know something Is wrong, it should be called on.

The golf teaching industry is in the best place it's ever been. Real data/science is being infused into the industry, there are several great certifications to receive, great people to learn from, technology allows for more information to be shared, swings to be easily captured/analyzed, Trackman, K-Vest, pressure mats give you unbiased data.

Having said that, Brandel is right, maybe not the best choice of words, but most instructors are not qualified to teach. They spread and recommend mis-information. If golf instructors were doctors, you'd have a lot of dead patients due to malpractice.

While not directly aimed at the PGA, anyone who has had to go through the program knows what a complete joke it is. Brandel is right, a lot of the change and good information being shared in instruction is coming from guys on YouTube, Instagram, independent web forums 😉, guys who started down an untraditional teaching path, it's not coming from the top down.

Here's a list of the top 50 instructors in the world, there are plenty of guys on that list that will do more harm than good. Personally, I've taken lessons from two of them, Dana for full swing and David Orr for short game. I think I would only recommend seven of them to someone (full swing).

I shared my guesses with Mike. I added Stan Utley for the short game, so I listed eight.

I wonder how many he will say I got right. 😉

I’ll just share an anecdotal story about a pro from our country. He didn’t make it on the European Tour but pretty much anyone who is working in golf in Slovenia was pretty certain he would the first to do so, he was really close, I’d say his hcp was in the +4-5 range at that time. So he went to Sweden to a top coach who is coaching players on the PGA tour. I can’t recall the name. But he forced him to change his swing so that the trail elbow is forced forward in the rotation (think Dustin Johnson-ish). That was last year. The guy still struggles to break 80, can’t hit a fairway for the life of him. Afaik he doesn’t work with the coach anymore but still can’t find his previous swing.

Pretty amazing the coach was able to get him to make a change that stuck so solidly. 😆

I think he was up there at least 4 or 5 months. And these guys aren’t like we are. They do it all day long...
