For me, I do not think I need the vaccine.  I just don't.  The odds that I've seen of something majorly happening to me if I get COVID is small (and I do have a heart condition).  However, I am getting the vaccine for my friends/family.  They know that I don't think I need it; I'm doing it for them, not for me.

It is good you are getting the vaccine. To use the logic of For me, I do not think I need the vaccine over scientific facts is just plain asking for trouble. It's like saying I am 70% sure I will not get C19, so I won't get the vaccine. Suffocating to death is enough to prompt me to get the Vac, along with causing someone else to die that way.

I’ve lost a former boss and another retired co-worker in the last 5 days to Covid. They were both great people. It’s not over.

Sorry to hear.

In my humble opinion Florida is not doing great at all.  Good to see local cases finally go down in the Palm Beach County area today.  Overall, my experience in Palm Beach County has been decent considering we have had a mask mandate in place until the state recently terminated any county mandates.  I went to the mall this weekend in Palm Beach Gardens and I would suggest about 10% of people were not wearing any masks and not following the mall rules to wear them.  Considering no one can know who's vaccinated and who is not, I consider this kind of behavior to be selfish.  I wish everyone could come together to do the right thing to put this pandemic behind us.

Personally, I think Florida is doing fine; along with the other states that are open.  I am from Michigan, where we have had a lot more restrictions than other states; yet; our numbers were high until most recently.  The death rate from COVID is extremely small.  Everyone takes risks everyday in life whether it be driving to work, going on a trip, etc.  Just because you get COVID doesn't mean you will be in a hospital, let alone die.  No matter what, I don't think I need the vaccine.  It's as simple as that.  I'm getting it because of friends and family.  If I didn't have those, I am 100% sure I wouldn't get it.  It's just not worth it to me.

Anyways, everyone has a right to their opinion and that is what makes discussion good.  It wouldn't be a good discussion if everyone agreed with what the other was saying.  As I say to friends, we can disagree and still be friends.  That really is not hard.

Well..it’s not a matter of disagreeing, it’s a matter of one being right…and the other wrong. Sorry…it’s just that simple.

If you could take a vaccine that guaranteed you'd never die in a car accident, or seriously injure anyone else in a car accident, nearly everyone would take it as soon as possible.

Nobody is saying "get the vaccine to be totally selfish." MOST of the reason for MOST everyone to get it is for others.

Jeez.

This shit ain't that complicated.

I'm glad you're getting it, but gosh you're making it hard to simply give you the credit for it.

Who says you are right?  Who says I’m wrong?  That’s the problem.  People don’t take the time to hear what the other person says; they just assume they are right and anyone who disagrees is wrong. Not necessarily.  A person should be able to listen to what the other person says and while they might not agree; appreciate where they are coming from

This reads a bit like you don’t give a shit about COVID affecting other people if they aren’t your friends or family. I don’t know if that’s what you meant to convey but that’s how it comes off.

Not all the time.

In this case, outside of medical issues (preexisting), there is no good reason to skip taking the vaccine. People can try to justify it, but every excuse is just shallow.

Not what I meant.  Friends and Family want me to get it due to reasons that you have said.  I, however, don’t see a reason to get it.  I’m doing it because they want me to not because I want to.  If it makes them rest easier then I’ll do it.  If they didn’t exist then more than likely I wouldn’t even care to get it

Right. You don’t. You just can’t understand it. It’s not complicated. It’s not just you and your family, friends that matter. It’s everyone. By not vaccinating you are allowing yourself to be a host who can pass the virus on to someone who could become very ill or die. It has nothing to do with how Covid affects you. I don’t get what part of that you don’t understand.

Shame on you you ignorant, ignorant person. If everyone was like you you'd see people with polio all over the place and infant mortality rates that would make you shudder. How the heck can someone in a progressive, civilised society say the "don't see a reason" to get it. Absolutely incredible.

How dare you say "Who says you are right?  Who says I’m wrong?"

You are wrong. Science says you're wrong. The only people who agree with you are uneducated morons who believe in every conspiracy theory that has ever existed. There is ZERO evidence to say you're right.

I wonder if these people see a reason to get it. I wonder if they think their "freedoms" are being eroded.

You know, I don't appreciate being called ignorant, uneducated and a moron just because I have a different opinion than you.  That is what is wrong with people, just because a person has a different opinion doesn't necessarily make them ignorant or stupid or a moron.  I was raised differently.  I was raised to respect a persons opinion and just because it differs than yours, doesn't mean the person is a moron or ignorant.  It means they have a different opinion, and they have a right to that.  Wouldn't discussions be boring if everyone agreed with everyone in the discussion?  During those productive discussions, who says one person is right and one person is wrong?

Also, I don't believe in most conspiracy theory's.

You have your opinion, and I have mine.  Just because I don't agree with you  doesn't mean I'm ignorant.  And you are not ignorant either.  Show some respect, man.

@Vinsk has pretty clearly summarized the "truth" based on current scientific understanding.  We, meaning somewhere between most and all of us, need to be vaccinated out of concern for society, for every single person we may come into contact with.  To choose not to be vaccinated is to choose to increase the risk of infection for everyone you interact with.  Do you not accept that as reality, or is there some other reason that you would choose not to get vaccinated?

    • Last year I made an excel that can easily measure with my own SG data the average score for each club of the tee. Even the difference in score if you aim more left or right with the same club. I like it because it can be tweaked to account for different kind of rough, trees, hazards, greens etc.     As an example, On Par 5's that you have fescue on both sides were you can count them as a water hazard (penalty or punch out sideways), unless 3 wood or hybrid lands in a wider area between the fescue you should always hit driver. With a shorter club you are going to hit a couple less balls in the fescue than driver but you are not going to offset the fact that 100% of the shots are going to be played 30 or more yards longer. Here is a 560 par 5. Driver distance 280 yards total, 3 wood 250, hybrid 220. Distance between fescue is 30 yards (pretty tight). Dispersion for Driver is 62 yards. 56 for 3 wood and 49 for hybrid. Aiming of course at the middle of the fairway (20 yards wide) with driver you are going to hit 34% of balls on the fescue (17% left/17% right). 48% to the fairway and the rest to the rough.  The average score is going to be around 5.14. Looking at the result with 3 wood and hybrid you are going to hit less balls in the fescue but because of having longer 2nd shots you are going to score slightly worst. 5.17 and 5.25 respectively.    Things changes when the fescue is taller and you are probably going to loose the ball so changing the penalty of hitting there playing a 3 wood or hybrid gives a better score in the hole.  Off course 30 yards between penalty hazards is way to small. You normally have 60 or more, in that cases the score is going to be more close to 5 and been the Driver the weapon of choice.  The point is to see that no matter how tight the hole is, depending on the hole sometimes Driver is the play and sometimes 6 irons is the play. Is easy to see that on easy holes, but holes like this:  you need to crunch the numbers to find the best strategy.
    • Very much so. I think the intimidation factor that a lot of people feel playing against someone who's actually very good is significant. I know that Winged Foot pride themselves on the strength of the club. I think they have something like 40-50 players who are plus something. Club championships there are pretty competitive. Can't imagine Oakmont isn't similar. The more I think about this, the more likely it seems that this club is legit. Winning also breeds confidence and I'm sure the other clubs when they play this one are expecting to lose - that can easily become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
    • Ah ok I misunderstood. But you did bring to light an oversight on my part.
    • I was agreeing with you/jumping off from there.
