Day 13,

I think it went pretty well until I tried the super extreme flop shot. I just struggle to get the right pitching motion when the club is laid that far open and I need to widen the stance.

Yes. Yes you do. 🙂

Today’s drill is going to have to wait a couple of days for me:

Don’t want to do this inside... (and I don’t have foam balls or anything like that)

Day 13

Nice drill but where do we get the courage to do this like Tiger?

You’re on to something there. Practice flopping it over your net 😜

Day 13

This one was awesome. I’ve endangered many innocent golfers on tee boxes adjacent to the green with bladed flop shot attempts so it was like a big hit of crack when it clicked for me.

I ended up doing this for about an hour. It took at least 20 balls and several rewatches of the video to finally get it. Conceptually it was a challenge to swing along a plane where feet are aligned but eventually I got it. When I did, I hit about 5 straight over the net and into the empty community pool next door. I moved about 5 feet away from my net and toward the end of my practice session I was able to pop the ball up over the net and have it land just on the other side, probably would have been able to catch a few of them. I’ll have to try this drill in an empty field and see if I can complete the challenge. I was hesitant to swing too fast, fearing a thinned shot and ricochet into a window.

I’m afraid I’ll overdo this shot on course but it’s just such a neat technique I don’t think I’ll be able to help myself.

Thank god, won't have to see any videos of those Michigan hoodies for a couple days :-P

Yeah, I don't really anticipate I will need this shot very often, maybe only a couple times per year at the most, but knowing how to do it is nice. It's a last resort option for me, if I'm really short sided with the green running away from me and I have to get up and down to win a match or something.

I had a lot of fun flopping shots into the kids' trampoline for day 13.  I need to try and make a video of me catching a flop shot for that challenge.

Day 14 – Eye-Hand-Club Coordination

Golf is an athletic endeavor, and in addition to speed, endurance, and strategy, one of the essential skills is hand-eye coordination. Today’s drill is just a little game to test your hand-eye (or “hand-club”) coordination.

The drills for today are simple:

  • 8:00 – Set up to the middle tee (ball, crumpled up paper, etc.) and hit either the inside or outside ball.
  • Note: if someone can “call” the shot after you start your backswing, even better.

I think you'll use a small variation of this more than you think you will. Even if it's just taking a 60° and making it 65° or something, to hit a shot that lands a bit softer after traveling only fifteen or twenty feet… it comes up often.

Day 14 - no video today as there wasn’t technique to critique. Admittedly, no one “randomly” called it out to me, but I was good with this drill in hitting the inside or outside balls as intended

Didn't get a chance to film or do drills yesterday but did get to try it out on the course. I use  a flop shot quite frequently as we have a lot of sloped greens, raised greens, greenside bunkers etc and I miss quite a few greens, so I already practice my short flops.  I haven't been opening the stance much but I did try it yesterday and noticed it went quite a bit higher and landed in the bunker, lol. I am going to try that again today at the course.

Day 13 Drill. Rough day yesterday. Rain, wind, trees down in the neighborhood and power outage. So I waited for today. I did this for about a half hour with my 58. I did film one stinker at the beginning. I didn’t even try to catch it. Too embarrassing.

    • I did read the fine print tonight. It said replace with “similar features & function”.  8 yeas ago my purchase had features that today are available on the lower end models and the current version of my model has more “bells & whistles” than what I got 8 years ago.  So I am thinking they honored the agreement and I can’t argue the offer. since getting a credit for the full purchase price all I am really out over the past 8 years was the cost of the extended warranty, which was less than a low end  treadmill would have cost me. now the question is which model to replace with.  I’ll stay with Nordic Track or I forfeit the $1,463 credit so I will get Nordic Track.  And they honored the warranty and were not hard to work with which is a plus.
    • Generally speaking, extended warranties are a terrible deal and should almost always be avoided. They are a huge profit center for the companies that offer them, which should tell you almost everything you need to know about how much value most consumers get when purchasing them.  This is correct, and the old adage applies - only buy insurance when you can't afford the loss. This usually doesn't apply to most consumer goods.  To your second question, no I don't believe the offer is fair. They are replacing it, but it is not being replaced at "no cost to you". Since the amount being disputed (over $500) is non-trivial, I would probably push the issue. Don't waste your time on the phone with a customer service agent or a supervisor. They have probably given you all they have the authority to do. Rather, I would look at the terms of your agreement and specifically legal disputes. The odds are you probably agreed to binding arbitration in the event of a dispute. The agreement will outline what steps need to be followed, but it will probably look something like this.  1. Mail the Nordic Track legal department outlining your dispute and indicate you are not satisfied with the resolution offered.  2. Open up a case with the AAA (American Arbitration Association), along with the required documentation. 3. Wait about 4-5 weeks for a case to be opened - at which point someone from Nordic Track's legal department will offer to give you the new model at no cost to you.  They certainly don't want to spend the time and energy to fight you over $500. 4. Enjoy your new Nordic Track at no cost to you. I recently entered binding arbitration against a fairly large and well known company that screwed me over and refused to make it right. In my demand letter, I made a pretty sizeable request that included compensation for my time and frustration. Once it hit their legal department, they cut me a check - no questions asked. It was far cheaper to settle with me than to send their legal team to defend them in the arbitration.
    • I never thought of looking at it on multiple purchases like you said.  Yes, the extended may help me on 1 or 2 items but not the other 5 or 6.
    • Day 84 - Forgot to post yesterday, but I did some more chipping/pitching.    Back/neck were feeling better today, so I did a much overdue Stack session.
