Pay a Compliment - What Do You Like about Other Members?

Recommended Posts

Whenever you feel like it, pop in to this topic and say something you like about other members. Don't post an exhaustive list (hell, if I did that, I'd be typing for a few days straight), but post a few, say a few good things, and get out. You can always come back another day to say more.

If you're excluded by anyone, don't take it badly. Like I said, I'm going to exclude a few hundred people I appreciate in my first post… it's just not practical. I will specifically though call out my appreciation for all of our mods. I don't have the time to do it individually right now, but they're all very helpful and great contributors.

In no order, other than that I may have happened to see their posts recently, or seen a PM, or something…

@ncates00, who I appreciate won't back down on his opinions, but also isn't so completely stubborn that he won't possibly change them and avoids feeling personally attacked and lashing back out. He seems to understand that we can all have different opinions, fight pretty hard for them, and then just move on to something else, and that we probably agree on more than is what is said because TST isn't really a place where we have a lot of "I agree" type posts. People only generally post when they disagree.

@dennyjones, for welcoming new members like it's his job, and being so kind and nice and helpful.

@Vinsk, similar to @ncates00, for being able to argue and disagree and not take it personally, and to give it almost as good as he gets it sometimes. I'd play golf with him in a heartbeat (I just wouldn't stand forward and left of him), as I would with most everyone here.

@Asheville and @Rulesman have always been very much appreciated for their rules knowledge, and @Asheville (when he's not bitching about auto-merging posts) in particularly lately for his daily quizzes and questions. More of you should visit the Rules forum and check those out.

Now, your turn!

Thanks man!  I haven’t been playing golf much for one, and the other reason is I just kind of realized that wasting a bunch of time arguing with strangers on the internet isn’t all that fulfilling.

I'd like to give a shout out to @boogielicious and @ncates00 for providing feedback in my swing thread to try and help me improve. Also, shoutout to @Antneye for having great taste in hockey team

Obviously all the people that keep this place running so well....But a shout out to:

@boogielicious for always making his morning rounds and adding his witty humor when a break is needed.

@Double Mocha Man for his one liners that at times can cause me to spit out my coffee.

@colin007 for his relentless support of Tiger and as well as his quick humor and thick skin.

@Adam C for answering many club building questions and providing information I know nothing about.

@dennyjones Gotta give you a thumbs up as well for all your friendly welcomes and a smooth calmness I envy.

@brocks @turtleback For such well presented and voluminous data in the Jack vs Tiger thread. They gave us a lot of excellent information.

Thank you Vinsk.  Did you see my mention of you in the Perfect Course thread?

I would like to compliment everyone on this forum for helping to keep me sane during my 9 months of elbow injury and during this Covid-19 time of spending waaaaay too much time at home.

I'd also like to thank everyone for putting up with me...

@David in FL is an awesome golf outing host. I owe him one for sure.

Hey cool thread.

To @iacas, @CarlSpackler , @Vinsk, and others who I'm sure I'm forgetting I'd like to say I appreciate that you all have disagreed with me and discussed it like an adult without being offended.

To @Double Mocha Man, @dennyjones and @boogielicious for being of a similar mind and sense of humor.

To @klineka, @Bonvivant and @CarlSpackler for agreeing to play a scramble with me which would have happened yesterday, but alas no... We will have to do it some time in the future... you too, @saevel25

Again, this is a cool thread. I look forward to adding more shout outs later.

I think it says a lot that so many of us could fill out multiple pages on this topic. Shows what a great group of golf enthusiasts  and well..just people we have here. So certainly a big thanks and appreciation to Erik, @iacas. Cheers my friend!

Thanks to @iacas for having a place to talk about all things golf.

I "like" about everyone here, I've never met anyone here in real life but from the contributions made everyone for the most part seems like good people. I wonder how many people here have a mullet.

Shout out to @boogielicious for helping keep politics out of here, so easy to do right now.

@Cantankerish for his avatar, @Vinsk, @David in FL for being part of the Florida crowd's daily insights.

And a special thanks to anyone who has posted in a thread I started. Checks in the mail.

@dennyjones, my fellow Michigander.  Setup our "Club" ... Michigan Golf, gives we Mitten Dwellers a heads up when a good golf deal is available, and generally helps keep the chatter going.

@Asheville for helping us learn and understand the Rules a bit better.

And of course @GolfLug for mentioning me! Back at you.

Man, it's tough to hit everyone up individually, this site has been an important part of my golfing life for nearly 15 years (minus a short hiatus a few years back).

So just to name a few folks who I appreciate their content @David in FL, @Vinsk, @boogielicious, @billchao, @nevets88, @Pretzel, @DeadMan, and of course @iacas. I'm sure I left a few off and I am sorry for that.

I'm not hardly that old!   (jk).    I didn't know this site existed or wasn't really interested in improving my golf game before I joined.    I now spend way too much time on here but wth, I've got the time now.

This site is fantastic.   @iacas, @boogielicious, @billchao and the other mods keep everyone in line and for that I'm extremely grateful.   I enjoy a good argument...not really .. but they allow for educated discussions w/o a lot of nasty talk.   It's easy sitting behind a computer to let your emotions go unchecked and say something you wouldn't say to a person you just met.   Thanks to you guys.

I always look forward to seeing posts from @DaveP043, his golf education shows in his posts.   I especially pay attention when @mvmac posts.  His post posts are very educational and enlightening.   Not to say that Erik's aren't (because they are) but Mike doesn't show up everyday like Erik.   I pay attention when @billchao talks, I believe we could be friends just like @Vinsk.     There are so many people that contribute to this forum to make it what it is, I'd be here all day listing the people that post worthwhile stuff even if it's just the numbers game.

I really get excited to see fellow "Mitten" members post.   @bkuehn1952, @tlazzol, @criley4way and others.

To all of the long term members, my heart felt "Thanks" to you.

Geez, how can I forget @Golfingdad! One of my best TST friends. Haven't seen much from him lately. Where are you man?

First, @iacas who changed my golf game completely. From my swing thread, playing a round together as part of a TST outing, LSW, Evolvr, giving me my first in person lesson ever at his facility in Erie, reading and rereading the topics in the Swing Thoughts section, etc, etc the list goes on and on. I can say without a doubt I am a significantly better golfer today than I was prior to finding TST and meeting Erik.

Next comes the numerous members I have met in person and golfed with or just had a drink with. I think this is everyone, sorry if I left anyone out! @saevel25 @DaveP043 @georgep @Carl3 @vasaribm

I also really enjoy reading about how other players work on their games, and I especially like to hear the thoughts of lower handicap players and see how my game stacks up to some of them. Guys like @NM Golf @mvmac @Double Mocha Man @Pretzel @phillyk @coachjimsc are some of the first that come to mind.

I'm sure I'll be adding to this thread in the future, there are a ton of great members on here.

One thing I really like about this group and this forum is the "Numbers Thread". I'm not sure why but I always click when somebody posts a new number.

So, special thanks to:

@dennyjones, @snapfade, @boogielicious, @commishbob, @dagolfer18, @iacas, @KEEPITSIMPLE, @NM Golf, @Vinsk, @JGus, @RoberX, and @IowaGreg for continually keeping the numbers thread going.

…. Even if @dennyjones sometimes posts way too many battleships.

    • I’ve played several times in the past week and a half, four rounds to be exact, so here we go! 5/6: Decided to play 18 holes after school, and I’m happy I did! My front nine was spectacular: two birdies and two bogeys, the rest pars for an even-par 36. One of the birdies was on the tough fifth hole after I bombed a drive and hit a wedge to six feet. That beats my personal best nine by two strokes! I started par-bogey on the back, but went +12 on the last seven holes to shoot 49 on the back for an 85 total. Still a solid number, but it was disappointing after the front.   5/8: I played a handicap match with a buddy at Croasdaile. Because of the tees we were playing and out handicap difference, I got twelve strokes, including nine in a ten-hole stretch. After five holes of the match, I was six over, and down two. But then started the stretch I mentioned above, and I took advantage, winning five holes to take a one up lead through 13. But then came the turning point of the match. I was sitting two on the par-3 14th about three feet out, and since I was getting a stroke here, I had a great chance to go two up with four to play. But then Zack chipped in, and my par putt, not for just a half, missed. All square with four to play. Because I got a stroke on two of the last four holes, I still had a chance to win. But momentum was with Zack. He went +1 on the last four holes, good enough for a two up win. My final numbers: 45-45 for a 90 from the blue/white combo tee (6241 yds, 70.8/133). Despite losing the match, I’m pretty happy with the round. Didn’t put well, but hit it well for the most part!   5/11: Played the home course again, and because a league was going off the front, I had to start this round on the tougher back nine. I managed three pars on the back nine, including the signature 18th hole, and I shot 45. Given the way I was playing, I figured I could shoot low 40s on the front nine.  I was right. Five pars on this side, and with two doubles as well, I shot 42 to finish with 87. Another solid round with solid putting (only 30 putts!) that saw my handicap drop a tenth of a stroke (16.0 to 15.9)!   5/17: In prep for the Durham Amateur tournament at Hillandale, I went to play Hillandale yesterday. From the blue tees. On the tougher front nine, I shot 44 which included a par on the tough par-3 seventh. Then, because I had only an hour and 20 minutes until all golfers needed to be off the course, I took a cart for the back nine. Playing kind of fast because I was pressed for time, I actually did okay. Despite playing holes 10-15 in only 45 minutes, I was +7 for the back. Not bad at all because all of the tough holes are in the stretch I’d just finished. I then went par-bogey, meaning a par on the short par-5 18th would bring me in with 88. I proceeded to hit my tee shot into an environmentally protected area, which, lucky me, played as a hazard, so I could just drop. It didn’t help me much though, because I was on in five, and three putted to finish the round with a 47 for the back and a 91 total. Didn’t hit it great, but I putted well again (32 putts here), so that saved me. Short game was also solid!
    • For folks that like the pod, they posted this video of them playing Kiawah recently from where the pros will play this week.  It's a long one,   a pro gives him some advice at the 42 min mark somewhat related to this.  Curious if you agree.    Overall, pretty fun video to watch some decent players try to play that course.
    • Hi, Anyone out there playing with Ping Eye 2 irons still?  I have acquired a set and would like to deloft these clubs 2-3 deg.  What are your suggestions for final loft specs on these irons?
    • I have played with this push-out early then suck in collapse loopy move for so long, the Mylan coating on my brain pathways is like 40 years old veneer on hardwood.  I really need a few good rounds at some point with this move then I can get some trust and re-Mylan for good. I have literally been losing all context half way through the downswing and jump on the ball abandoning all trust. Scores are a bit comical but I understand where we need to go (I said 'we', hah). Need to survive the lows this year. Digging deep for patience.
    • Kinda, but kinda the opposite too. If you push your hands "out" early, they'll "suck in" late and fold/collapse. If you just turn (ideally on a steeper angle with your shoulders), and lift, and fold barely… they'll be plenty wide and deep enough.
