I made my own net out of some scaffolding, its definitely not the prettiest net on here but it gets me making some swings.

Pretty or not, that thing is a product of love (for the game) and hard work.  Nice work

I started "building" my green.  It's not going to be fancy, but I am trying to get it as smooth as possible with soil and sand mixture.  Probably going to get some more sand over the weekend to get it smoother.  I'm not sure who is more excited... me or the kids.

I wouldn't want to dissuade you. By all means, give it a shot but I tried something similar years ago. Dug up a section of my backyard similar in size to what you have pictured. I screened the soil that was there, brought in additional top soil, mixed in sand to get better drainage, smoothed it and groomed it and even planted bentgrass seed. I also converted an old reel mower to cut what grew real low. I have an underground sprinkler system so it got plenty of water. Result? For awhile, maybe 2 months, it looked as good as a teeing area but could never really putt on it. Then the weeds quickly took over and that was that. It was a waste of time, money and a lot of effort.

Thanks for crushing my dreams!

😀

It's Bermuda in Georgia, so it should fill in pretty well.  In all seriousness though, I'm hoping to convince the wife that I need to go ahead and put in a turf putting green... but don't tell her!

Kind of had to get creative these past couple months. But I've been still able to enjoy the game throughout, just differently. That's all that matters.

  • 5 months later...

The local driving range sold some old Fiberbuilt mats for $50 each so I bought a couple. I am right handed and my son is left handed so we won't have to move the very heavy mats around. One of the hitting strips is pretty worn, but the other is in decent shape. I might just use the worn one for driver and the other for irons or maybe swap it out with my CGE strip.
