Why would someone be upset about a golfer playing golf? If he is eligible to play, play. There are no other tournaments to my knowledge taking place that time that he can play in. Plus he does not need to travel. That to me is a perfect reason to play your game and feel comfortable doing so.

Of course he has the right to play. I just don’t care much for VJ. Maybe I was misled by the media? When his caddie wore that stupid ‘ Tiger Who?’ on his bib I thought that was a real douche move. But the KFT guys need to shoot lower scores so this stuff wouldn’t matter to them. Golf is one of if not the hardest sports to ‘make it’ on the professional level.

FWIW Vijay has seemingly never gotten along with the media, and except for a few spot cases (Phil), he's well liked by his fellow PGA Tour players. He often did a lot to take younger players under his wing and help them out.

I'm not a fan of his but he has every right to play. As has been stated, it's in his backyard so an easy tune up for him. I get it.

If he is qualified, it's his prerogative.

Didn't Alex Cejka play and win Arizona open or some other minor tournament recently?

Veteran Alex Cejka added another victory to his growing tally in Arizona, rallying to win the Parker Open thanks in part to a final-round ace.

Vijay Singh ignited a heated debate when he registered to play in a Korn Ferry Tour event at TPC Sawgrass...

Damn. Stick to your guns Vijay. The worst was probably over. 🙂

I think this is dumb.  He's a professional golfer.  If they have any complaint, it should be against the organizers of the tournament, who set these things up.  Beyond that, if they don't like that he's "taking money away" from them...well, go ahead and beat him.

I’m not a Vijay fan but I think some of the responses to him entering were out of line. Is there to be pairing in this tournament? I’d be excited to be paired with a veteran and get some solid advice If not some great stories from him.

After taking all the heat already, I am surprised he withdrew.

Exactly!  Regardless of whether this is a "developmental tour" or not, it is based on meritocracy.  If you don't like it, get better and beat him!  Or get at least good to beat those on KFT to move up in the ranking so YOU won't be "bumped".

Perhaps, this is the reason???  If so, I still don't see why he had to withdraw.  Maybe to save embarrassment of not having qualified after all the hoopla?

When one of the greatest golfers of the modern era decides to play in a tour designed for young golfers struggling to earn a living and make their mark, and thereby takes one of their spots, I call that a shit move.  Just because he has the right to play in that tour doesn't make it right.  If he were not taking someone spot, I would have no problem at all with him playing there.  I'm glad he changed his mind.

On the other side though....these young guys are gonna face much more challenge in their career than Vijay. They should man up and take every challenge.

FWIW, look at the list of Alternates:

I dislike Vijay as much as the next guy, but it does seem like he's catching grief for something that other golfers wouldn't.

If that were accurate, Vijay wouldn't have been qualified to play in the event. Turns out the Tour also supports plenty of older players who are getting ready for the Champions Tour or players trying to work their way BACK to the PGA Tour.

As it was, his priority on the list was so low, that he almost or may have barely squeaked in. But you can't say the tour was "designed" for "young golfers" when they could have codified that "design" if they wanted to, but never have.

Everyone playing is taking a person's spot. The thing is, those "spots" they're taking are people with even less status than they have. Vijay had a pretty low status, and yet he still may have qualified. How low should they go to dredge up people who are deserving of a "spot"? There aren't many categories lower than the one Vijay was in.

I think his playing in it would enhance the interest and attendance in the event. His is only one name in the "maybe he cheated" hat, many are on the tour today. I don't see demand for lifetime bans for any of them.
