Getting my lawn under control has been on my to-do list every year. I always tell myself that I am going to get on a schedule for pre-emergent, fertilizer, etc..., but I never do. Last year I built a shop that tore up my side yard. It is still torn up because I have to rip up all of my old concrete around my pool and replace it. I didn't want to fix the side yard until that was done. The last 2 years, moles have destroyed it. I have got to get rid of those guys..

Just invite the moles out to a bar for a drink. Sit together within 6 ft, don't wear masks and arrive with the virus on your dirty hands.

That's how I have been trying to get rid of them..lol

Funny story on the mole hunting. My daughter and I were walking through the yard one day moving the water hose. Emma says "look daddy, there is a mole tunnel."  It was a hole in my sod by the pool, which frustrated me. In a fit of rage, I jammed the water hose into the tunnel and said "how about a nice cool drink, varments" as I was playing out my Caddyshack role. I let it run for a few seconds and started to walk off. Them Emma says, "Daddy, there he is!" I said, "no, that's just the dirt from the hole that was dug." She said, "No, it's moving." I looked and sure enough, the mole was trying to come out of the tunnel. I guess the hose had sprayed him right in the face. I dug him out and disposed of him.  It was pretty funny because I never in a million years expected the water hose to work.

We had a vole under our outside shower at my cottage. I could see the tunnel going to my neighbors yard. But then we had some landscaping done and he’s gone.

    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!

    • A bit of background. The Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) runs an annual event known as "Team Play." It is a wildly popular match play competition where Men's Clubs across the region put together teams of 20+ golfers together to compete against other clubs in a 16 vs. 16 match. In any given year, approximately 80-100 clubs will participate. Each club is grouped into "pods" of 4, and will play 6 total matches - one home and one away match against the other 3 clubs. The winning club from each pod advances to the Team Play Playoffs - a single elimination format - until a winner is crowned.  Antelope Valley Country Club just advanced to the championship match for the 3rd consecutive year. They won the championship in both 2022 and 2023.  Based on my review of the match history from the past 3 years (linked below), they have won 21 consecutive team matches. Keep in mind, these are handicapped matches, so this is not just a case where a group of sticks bands together to dominate the poor amateurs other SoCal clubs. Even if these guys are grinders who never quit, play their best under pressure and routinely putt the lights out, the law of averages still say that a streak of that nature is mathematically impossible.  Is there any plausible explanation beyond institutionalized sandbagging throughout the club?
