Looking good. How do you do the top tracer thing?

It's a phone app called "Shot Tracer". I just use it on my phone then I download both the original and the tracer version from my phone to my PC. Then I stick them together, put one in slow motion and publish to YouTube. I like to shoot in slow motion when I can, but it's not always possible. So, these are just shot in regular motion and then I set the time to 25% for the slow mo. It means each frame is just shown 4 times... not really that sophisticated.

I don't think you hit many "straight" balls like you think. That wouldn't make sense.

Yeah, you are correct. I should have said that one went where I was aiming it or rather expecting it to go. Right now they are either a pull or a big pull. I've been "playing" the pull for a while now. The good news is the ball flight is very straight. I think it's time for me to work on swing path because I had hoped my brain would just adjust my swing path organically. But that hasn't happened. Instead I'm just playing the pull. That's why February will be "Swing Path Month". ... One thing at a time right.

Using information from another thread, I thought I'd stick this picture here. It helps me notice just how closed my set up has become recently. Before anyone mentions it. I of course realize that the 27 degrees isn't an accurate number. If I change the camera angle, or reposition it, or shoot an aerial view or something the measured angle will be different. I'm just putting it here as a reference for my sake. Besides, as you all know, I went to Chicago Public School ... So math is hard!

Okay, Been working on my swing path and set up since February 1st.
Here's some video from February 12. By the way, it was pretty cold, about 25 degrees out when I took these.

I've been working on setting up with my feet square to the target line. In theory, it should take no athletic talent what-so-ever to set up straight. Yet, I'm still working on it.

For a few months now I've been working on face control. I think I'm getting a ton better in this regard. 440275801_DTLWristPositionFeb122021.thumb.jpg.e17bc252bd605a565a34b8af943cf15f.jpg

One of the things I've been working hard on and still haven't gotten it right is keeping a still head. I often get into the habit of dropping my head. I also have the tendency to draw the driver back way past parallel at the top. Always have had that and still do.

I'm still working on swing path. It is way better than it was, but I still need to release the club more out to the right. My tendency is still to slide across the ball. Getting better, but still needs work.

These next couple of pictures are just to show that I feel like I'm making improvements.

This is no where near as dreadful as it was.

My aim is improving dramatically. I'm still working at finding a zero path. It's getting better, but more path work to come.

This is just nice to see. This line has been way inside the ball and or way outside the ball at times in my golfing life. I'm not sure how important it really is, but I like to see it as a check that I'm at least kind of on track.

I'm taking this as evidence that my strike is improving. The range session left a witness mark on my club where I'm hitting the lion's share of my shots.

The plan for the rest of February:

  1. Continue to work on my swing path.
  2. Continue to practice setting up with my feet square to my target line.
  3. Work on my swing path
  4. Maintain my the club face control gains I have made
  5. Work on my swing path
  6. Work drills to improve my release... currently I think its a bit of a power leak.
  7. Work on my swing path
  8. SuperSpeed Training
  9. Work on my swing path

Hey I recognize that place, Westerville Golf Center! It's ~5 minutes from my house and I'm there like once a week in the winter and probably 2-3x a week the rest of the year. I wish they had an unlimited membership option.

That's The Golf Center in Dublin.

It's a pretty good place. Grass tees (in good weather), two levels of heated (sort of) bays. Short game area. It even has a par 3 course you can play for a few bucks. Nice place and it's near a customer of mine, so I try to get to see that customer when ever I can.

Square is parallel left. You're better now, but pointing at your target is still closed.

Or are you trying to be a little closed, but just not a LOT closed?

Very few good players are really perfectly square. Many are slightly open, a few less slightly closed.

Okay, so I had a really good range session yesterday. I even got to hit balls off GRASS!!!!!! Yahoo!

I didn't get any video. But judging from my divots and ball flight my swing path has improved.

The plan for the rest of March:

  1. Get some more video.
  2. Get some trackman numbers.
  3. Continue to work drills to improve my release... it is still a power leak.
  4. Continue to practice setting up with my feet square or even a bit open to my target line.
  5. Confirm my swing plane. I think I'm starting to get very steep again. I'll need to confirm.
  6. Maintain my the club face control gains I have made
  7. Maintain the path gains I have made
  8. SuperSpeed Training
  9. Spend 1/3 of my range time working on where instead of how.

Golf season is getting close. I don't want to be in the middle of a bunch of swing changes and "thinking" about my golf swing on the course. I may actually try to develop a consistent pre-shot routine; I have never actually had one before.

Okay, I have some video I'm anxious to post.

I'll get it up here soon.

Since we are getting an early start to the season this year I'm pretty much going to play the swing I have now for the Lion's share of this season. Only very minor tweaks, maintenance work, swing speed and short game work from now until the seasons over. I really think my swing is in a pretty good place. It's very playable. I hit 11 of 14 fairways the last time I played (I put two others in fairway bunkers.)

So, this doesn't mean my swing is perfect. But don't want to get on the course thinking about a bunch of stuff.

Here's my plan for the rest of April:

The plan for the rest of April 2021:

  1. Get some more video. (I have some. I will post it.)
  2. Continue to practice my set up. If I'm not careful I get more and more "closed" as the season goes on.
  3. Maintain my the club face control gains I have made
  4. Maintain the path gains I have made
  5. SuperSpeed Training
  6. Spend my range time working on where not how
  7. Will need some serious practice on 50 to 110 yards. That's been ugly so far this year. ... The good news is the data shows I'm always long on these shots. So, I think I can fix that.
  8. I keep saying I'm goin to do this. But I need to get on it. I'd like to develop a consistent pre-shot routine; I have never actually had one before.

I don't usually post my swing here. But I thought I would at least stick my current swing in.

Here's a down the line look at a 6-iron. In this shot I'm not working on anything. I'm trying to just hit a 6-iron. I just set up the camera and hit one ball. I wanted a "sample swing" nothing special, not trying to do anything other than just hit a 6-iron. Here it is:

Okay, same thing here. Not "working on" anything in this swing. Just recording a sample of how I currently swing.

There are a lot of things I like. I have made a lot of improvements.
There are still a number of habits that continually creep back in.
In this case the length of my swing and that little hip kick thing I do. While better than it used to be I still need to work on them.

Looking at your FO video, things start to go wrong around left arm parallel going back. Your hip turn looks pretty good, but then it looks like you have a late, problematic effort to turn more or swing longer -- both of your knees move out and around, and you shift laterally to the right, throwing off your pivot. If there's lateral shift it should happen early in the swing, as you take the club away.
