  1. 1. Do you have a problem or dislike Justin Thomas (or anyone else, really) cursing on TV while playing golf?

Ralph Lauren missed a big spot this week. Could've been front and center like JT's other sponsors. JT was sincere and apologetic and most people accepted that and allowed life, and JT, to carry on. Probably one of the best examples of how these situations should be handled. People make mistakes, but if they are truly repentant, then forgiveness should be offered.

forgiveness doesn't mean that everything goes back to normal. If a friend betrays me, I can forgive them, but in the end I would still not trust them as much as if they never betrayed my trust in the first place.

I'm talking about taking away people's livelihoods, etc. Many people may dislike JT from this, and that's fair. They can dislike him forever if they want.

But I have also found that people who have made mistakes and made amends can be the most trustworthy people in existence. They learned a humbling lesson.

JT probably still has agreements with his equipment he plays. He also just won a tournament. He wasn't banned from golf.

So, he is just fine.

Also, are you saying that companies should not be allowed to release someone when their actions bring bad PR to their business?

You missed my point. I was saying that the JT situation was a GOOD example of how these things can play out. Ralph Lauren was free to drop their sponsorship, which they did. But everyone else accepted his apologies and moved on, and everyone for the most part seems OK with that. So often similar situations turn out much differently.

But more than a mistake I think JT's utterance was a window into his soul.  A hint of his beliefs. I think that's what most of us have trouble with.

Judging others' souls is a dangerous game for which none of us are qualified. Way above my pay grade. There is simply so much we don't know about a person's intent, thoughts, etc. to make sound judgements.

There are plenty of people here who love Tiger Woods but also think JT shouldn't be forgiven. TW caused substantial, direct harm to many people's lives through his transgressions. Most seem to have forgiven him for such things. TW also seems to have maintained his friendship with JT. Should we judge those who keep company with those whose "souls" we deem unworthy?

This is a very difficult road to travel down if we anoint ourselves to be judges of others in this way. And what if we get things wrong? What if we can't see our own biases? Our each of us completely innocent?

When I was a kid, the f** word was used as a playground insult pretty regularly. I can easily see how that can settle into your mental vocabulary with zero thought given to the meaning or intent of such a word.

I have no problem with the occasional cursing being caught on mic.  What I have a problem with  is the idiot spectators who scream "get in the hole" after every shot. Please escort those morons out of the venue when they display this idiocy.

I never said such a word under my breathe even just towards myself.

the word he said, the N word, and the C word are ones that are not in my vocabulary for a reason.

I do curse at myself, like dumbass. That is like a 1/10 on the offensive scale compared to him throwing out a 9/10.

There are people who are offended when they hear someone use the term dumbass.

Far too many people work far too hard to find a reason to be offended by things that other people do or say.  More often than not they’re just trying to convince themselves of their own moral superiority.

I call myself all sorts of names on the golf course and in the pool hall. Honestly most are well deserved at the time!   😑😂

I was having a similar discussion with my friends regarding swearing and nudity on TV.  I personally don't have any kids yet, but have absolutely no problems with either and wouldn't have a problem if and when I do have kids.  I don't understand the whole brouhaha regarding swearing.  As long as you aren't calling addressing somebody directly in a derogatory manner, who cares how much and what you swear.  I personally use the F-bomb a lot when I talk 😀

So does JT has a 'scarlet letter' imprinted on his resume from now on?

I’m not speaking for Matt, but… it’s a part of his history. We have no incentive to “forget” it happened, but as time goes on it will not be the first thing people think of, then it won’t be top three, then not top five, then not top ten… and so on.

Patrick Reed still gets crapped on and he is only known to have cheated one time, and it was in 2019. No?

It never crossed my mind when he won this weekend. So, I guess for me, I've moved on.

I can understand, however, if you haven't moved on. For some people the slur was a lot more personal.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Funny thing about PR is that he is one of my favs, and so is JT. Maybe I just like the bad guys? Maybe that also has something to do with my passion for WWE? lol

Ralph Lauren has moved on.

JT has moved on.

People on this site have moved on.

He has been forgiven by pretty much everyone.

The only "debate" is from twits who think that the word "fa***" is a "curse word" - the same as dick, or jerk or f*ckwit.

Ralph Lauren didn't miss anything. IN fact, the publicity they gained from doing waht they did may have been a smart financial move.

    • Agree. The next omission needs to be that ridiculous team concept. Nobody cares about a team when they really don’t represent anything except being a group of diminished morality and/or washed up pro golfers. Or wait, we’ve also got total nobodies who’ve accomplished nothing who now get a participation trophy! Doesn’t that sound invigorating!
    • LIV moving to 72 holes is a subtle admission that 54 holes was nothing but a joke all along.
    • I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
