  1. 1. How many better-than-scratch (plus index golfers) do you think there are in the United States as of September, 2020?

Take a guess. Vote in the poll. Then view this hidden tweet:

Spoiler

FWIW with ~20M golfers and about 15,000 golf courses, that's:

  • 0.179415% of all golfers.
  • 2.3922 per course.

So, how close were you?

Well, I was wrong (chose the none listed option) but it was a wild guess. Interesting that there are more + handicap than 0-0.9.

Well, I guessed wrong. After I saw the answer though, I felt like it kind of makes sense.

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to guess after you see the answer?

Well, yeah… one is a range of 10 spots (0.0, 0.1, 0.2… 0.9), the other goes from 0.1 to… +6 or something. 60 spots.

I wonder how many of them are golfers like me, where they currently have a + index primarily because it's been a while since they last played and they haven't posted enough new rounds to fix that? Prior to this summer I hadn't actually posted a round since 2017, but now that I'm free from college I've started again and the results are ugly.

    • If the only way that RL can profit is by using labor in countries that are anti-LGBT, they have a horrible business model and should fail. Their clothes aren't exactly cheap, and they could probably make them in a western country and still make profit. Obviously not as large, but they would be able to support far more LGBT people with this if that is what they care about (which I think they do, and they should). The problem is that they want to look like they care, but the only thing they actually care about comes in the color of green, and it isn't the grass golfers play on.
    • Hahaha!  You guys are funny!!!  Christmas is a funny thing...I got two wedges and she got a Dyson and an irobot.  She was pretty happy with her Christmas too... I suspect I'll be using the Dyson a lot more though...so I guess it was more for me as well...lol!!
    • To me, the way you post is you want all or nothing. Basically, you want a word that is unrealistic. You can't donate to charity unless you are Mother Teresa because it is demeaning to the people you are donating to if you are not.  Here is the rub. What if RL goes to another country that has better LGBT policy for their manufacturing. What if that causes them to lose a ton of market share because their cloths prices go up. What if that causes them to cut funding to LGBT charities and fire employees who may be LGBT because they can't compete as well. I can easily see a scenario where you are doing more harm than good by going by your unrealistic ideological stance. The world is complex. Sometimes, you have to accept and work with the system you are in and still try your best to achieve a large positive change for good.  I agree.
