Hi All I am new to the forum.

I’m 54 and began golfing in the mid to late 1970’s.  My first set of clubs was a Northwestern Junior set that included the typical 3-5-7-9 1W-3W & putter.  My second set of clubs was a well-used, but well cared for set of Sam Snead Blue Ridge irons and woods from 1962.  They were hand-me-downs from my grandfather, a career Air Force Master Sergeant, who bought them at the PX when he was stationed in Hawaii.  I golfed in high school and purchased my first set of new clubs when I made the team.  It was a set of Lynx Predator Plus low profile irons and metal/wood woods.  Between the low profile irons and the unique looking woods I dare say I had the most interesting (looking) bag of clubs on my golf team.  What I really wanted was a set of Ping Eye 2’s, but I was limited to using my own money and the Pings just weren’t within my reach.  I chose the Lynx because I played a decent round with a demo set and Service Merchandise (large catalog store long since gone) had them discounted such that I could buy a 2-PW set of irons and 1W, 3W & 5W set of woods, bag, head covers, and two dozen Titleist Tour Balata 90’s and still have money left over – decision made.  I grew to love that set of clubs and I still have them.

I collect vintage golf clubs and I enjoy playing vintage clubs; in fact vintage clubs are pretty much all I play anymore.  I live in southeast Wisconsin so golf is not a year round activity for me.  Winter, you know…  I look forward to sharing some of the vintage clubs in my small collection that may be of interest to the folks on here that like that sort of thing.

Regards, Brad

Welcome.  I am a former Wisconsinite, born in Appleton.  What caught my attention are your initials, since mine are B.E.K. also.  A tad older ... 1952.  Hope you find some interesting conversations here.  I am not a vintage golfer or collector although my clubs are becoming more vintage each year.

Welcome to the site @BEK1966.  I would love to see some photos of your collection. I play with a set of Hogan's myself, they're just not vintage. 🙂I am also in SE WI. Delafield area.

Thanks for the warm welcome all!  It's great to hear from so many of you that either live not too far from me or have ties to Wisconsin.  I'd like to think that everyone has a little bit of Wisconsin in them :-P

I've been playing recently with a fellow I met through The Persimmon Golf Society facebook group.  He and I both play vintage clubs on a nice par 3 course he introduced me to and we have a ball.  We're interested finding more folks interested in playing vintage clubs in our area, southeast Wisconsin - northeast Illinois, in order to gauge the interest in have a few vintage club golf outtings next summer.  If any of you are interested in joining like minded golfers to play rounds with vintage clubs please contact me.

By the way, love the photos of upper midwest golf pretty much anytime from November through April :-D

Regards, Brad

Where do you guys play at?  I'd be interested in something like that. Balata golf balls?

We've been playing at Anetsberger golf course in Northbrook, Illinois.  It's a nice little par 3 course operated by the Northbrook Park District.  I believe that Bill is playing a Wilson Staff Duo Soft ball - he's a Wilson Man through and through!  I'm kind of a Titleist Man myself.  I have a number of balata balls stashed away, but have had great results from playing ProV1's.  Keep in mind that we're playing a par 3 so we're not using any woods.  If we were playing holes long enough to warrant a wood, I'd have one of those vintage Titleist balatas on a tee in a heart beat.  Can't beat the feel of a balata!!!

Feel free to PM me if you would like to discuss this more, or would like to exchange contact information.

Brad

@BEK1966 Welcome!  I grew up in Southeastern MN.  Probably all not that to far from you.  Hoping the snow melts so i can get one more round in this weekend.  Great place to talk about golf.  Excellent place for instruction!!!  As well as the occasional debate on rules 😎

O&H.  Nice to find O&H in Trader Joe's, but I need some chocolate!

Wasn't aware Bendtsen's shipped, so I'll have to check that out.  I'm sure I've had it before, but its probably been in excess of 20 years.  I see they have chocolate too.

Huge shout out to @BEK1966 who was able to locate some Vintage Hogan irons for me!  I appreciate it very much and am very excited to play some vintage iron rounds with you guys next season.

These are gorgeous and I can't wait to add to the collection.

You're very welcome!  I think it's pretty cool that you now have both a modern set and a vintage set of Hogan irons.  It should be a lot of fun to compare the two generations.   It's been a real pleasure to get to know you and I'm looking forward to getting out on the course next year to swing some vintage clubs.

Regards,

Brad
