The move from Florida to Connecticut will trim 400-plus jobs, but viewers likely won’t notice much difference in the TV product. The website’s demise is certain to leave a big void in golf coverage

They're ditching the website, too, for some reason?

I wonder if Peacock might fit into the equation somewhere. Probably not. Also wonder if the Olympics delay might have put even more of a dent into NBC's bottom line, and thus a snowball effect. Well, not NBC as much as Comcast?

Streaming is convenient, if you can watch while the event/program is being streamed.

I have an NBC sports gold golf subscription, and for those times when I happen to be doing nothing else, it is really nice to watch live golf, if they happen to be showing featured groups at that particular time. That's about twice a month for maybe an hour.  For those times, I really like it.   It's great to be able to get it on my iPhone, my iPad or on my MBP.

The problem is that most of my free viewing time is hours after the live event (or the next day), so I have my DVR pre-programmed to record PGA and European Tour broadcasts. Nothing else going on at 9 p.m.? That's usually when I can watch a little golf.

With this move to all-things-streaming, I'm concerned that there will be a a move to drop/reduce the broadcasts (majors excepted), meaning I'll be out of luck.  NBC sports gold gives some highlights of the day's round, but so far their "full event replays" is extremely limited and appears to be several days delayed.

What do you think?  Are the Golf Channel's days as a separate channel numbered?

No guesses as to whether it'll survive, but I would think whether it does or not, streaming is going to be more prevalent. Despite the problems with Peacock and the USO, maybe they're going to broadcast some tournaments via Peacock? I don't see the COVID situation changing drastically anytime soon and with the uptick in people golfing, you'd figure there would be a chance to capitalize on that but that's not happening AFAIK.

Employees must not be too happy about the move. Unlike Orlando, golf in Connecticut is extremely poor to non-existent December through March. Hope they bring their indoor golf simulators with them.😉

Yeah, I don't know the reason for the move but that just sounds like a bad decision.

    • The two new topics are up! 2020 Recap Topic 2021 Goals Topic Post in those now. If you're still playing, of course, wait until closer to the end of the year to post in the recap topic.
    • Like our 2008 , 2009 , 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 threads, here's the official thread for 2021! The rules are the same as they've been: Post your personal golf-related goals for 2020. Be specific and thorough. Elaborate on how you'll go about achieving these goals. Details, people! Post just once this year in this topic. So, make it a good post. (Though if you reach all of your goals, you should quote your post and revise them later in the year. Then you should set harder goals next year. 😄) Keep the replies to a minimum. This thread is mostly for the posting of goals. If you want to encourage more discussion of your goals, post a copy of them in your Member Swing thread. If you want to discuss someone else's goals in more depth than a few replies, quote them in their Member Swing topic. If you're looking to recap your 2020 goals, that topic can be found right here. Let's hear 'em!
    • Maybe then, you've simply had some good fortune to have avoided that particular type in the past.  At my low level, I'd say most people in my club events have been pretty good guys to play with, but there are some particular guys that will press buttons. They are out there and it is inevitable that you'll run into one of them again. I'd also guess that as you progress to higher levels of competition, that type will become more common.
    • Well sure but you were the one talking of selling the putter.  If you're selling a Ping putter, I think you'd get better $$ if it had a Ping grip. I got a very slightly oversized Ping pistol grip for my PingZing2 (from the stock wrapped grip) and it helps greatly.  Good tacky rubber that still has the feel.  Shop did not carry any jumbo type that I was curious to and I'm not sure if Ping offers them.
    • With the year coming to a close, it's time for our yearly self-assessment thread. Here's how this will work...  Quote your post from the 2020 Golf Goals topic right here in this topic, then write something below your quoted post to let everyone know how you did! For deep dives into your goals, consider cross-posting (linking to your post here) in your Member Swing topic. P.S. To quote your post from another topic, you can do one of two things: Quote it, select the whole quote "box" (with the little + sign in the top left corner), copy it, and paste it into the reply box here. Click the "+ Multi" button on your post in that topic, reload this topic, and quote it directly into a reply here by clicking the "Quote 1 Post" button/overlay that should appear. The latter is the easier method, and the former won't work very well on tablets or smart phones.
