Sand Trap Superspeedsters - Support and Encouragement Group

Starting on January 3 (because that's the Sunday), my intent with this topic is to have those of us with SuperSpeed sticks (or those of us who can get them by then) to band together, fill out a spreadsheet together, and improve our speed over the winter.

SuperSpeed can get boring, and this group will function like a gym buddy to keep us all motivated. Those of us who complete the challenge, I'll create a badge for us to wear proudly on our profile(s).

I've created a sheet, so if you're interested, do a few things:

  1. Add yourself to the Google Sheet below. Just your name, and username, for now.
  2. Get your SuperSpeed sticks ready. Get them if you need them.
  3. Follow this topic by clicking the "Follow" thing in the top-right corner.
  4. Figure out how you're going to measure your speed. More on this coming in the second post.

In later December I'll post the protocol videos for the first few weeks, along with how we'll measure for the spreadsheet.

Google Sheets:

bJ9ePK-iZoEaUMqPmqOPYqDI0dT4-cNNDQKLcQHU

SuperSpeedsters Name,Username,Initial Driver Speed,Start,Jan 3,Jan 10,Jan 17,Jan 24,Jan 31,Feb 7,Feb 14,Feb 21 End,Jan 9,Jan 16,Jan 23,Jan 30,Feb 6,Feb 13,Feb 20,Feb...

Speed Kills, fellas, so let's get some more of it.*

You can get SuperSpeed sticks here:

The Men’s SuperSpeed Golf Training System is the perfect way to add up to 30 more yards to your drive! Coupled with our complimentary online video instruction series under the training tab, this system will help you...

* Bryson's 15,000 calorie/day diet not included.

Instructions for the Spreadsheet

  • Fill out your name, username, and your initial driver swing speed (when hitting a ball).
  • Each week, for your three sessions, measure with the BLUE SuperSpeed stick (the medium one most like your driver). I like to measure at the beginning and then at the end, but I only count the one(s) at the end.
  • Alternatively, if you measure with your driver hitting a ball instead of the SuperSpeed Stick, mark those speeds in italics.
  • To measure (at the end), swing the stick FIVE (5) times.
    • ”Med” is the “median” value. So the middle one - not the average.
    • ”Max” is the highest value you record.
    • In other words: 118, 119, 122, 122, and 127 is 122 median and 127 max.
  • If you do another workout that day, like Mach 3 or something else, you can still measure five swings with the SuperSpeed or your driver.

Even if you’re late, join us! We can add weeks to the spreadsheet to keep it going.

So, as for measuring speed…

  • The Mevo and Mevo+ don't measure clubhead speed unless you're hitting a ball. Seems dumb, and I've made known that they should add this. But even if they do it might take a year.
  • You can measure with the Mevo/Mevo+ if you hit a ball. Maybe we should just measure hitting shots with a golf ball with the driver?
  • The swing speed radar, the Sports Sensors Swing Speed Radar, works fine. I don't think it's the most repeatable, but it "works." It costs about $110.
  • SuperSpeed sells a PRGR one, but it's $200.

Any launch monitor can tell you speed, too (a FlightScope, a Trackman, a Foresight, but it's important, IMO, to measure it every session. I typically measure five swings at the end, with the medium SuperSpeed stick, and count that one (and track the median and maximum value of the five).

So what do we think? Obviously, everyone will be able to measure however they see fit, but what options are out there for those who are new to this and who won't want to get the $199 PRGR thing?

I've got foresight, the SS sticks, and Swing Radar.  I can measure ball speed when hitting driver, but I don't have the HMT for CHS.  The Swing Radar doesn't seem very good to me.  I guess it's better than nothing though.  The Swing Radar I think gets in the way of the gc2 too, so it would be really just for measuring the sticks.  I just don't know how reliable the radar is with the sticks.  I've swung the sticks and seen results all over the place on the radar.

Yeah, thing is, you don't want to measure clubhead speed by doing ball speed/1.45 or something, because you're going to mishit some balls as the point of the five measured swings is to go all out, and not to worry about where the ball is going.

So the Radar, for you, seems like the best option.

I'm in, but need to add myself to the gSheet, which I can't access from my work computer.

Also need to get a SS radar.

I have some decent speed, but I’d enjoy another 5mph, if possible.  I also don’t have much else to do in winter. I’ll likely use the speed radar that came with it.

I'm in.

I'll have to get data here in the next couple of days to see where I am in terms of speed right now. So, for now I put TBD on the starting speed. I will fill it in later.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

A good option is using your phone, just install the "Sheets" App.
It's better than a Mobile Browser, IMO.

I've got the app, I just hate editing spreadsheets on a phone screen.

Would be awesome if Flightscope adds this. I notice sometimes when I am making slower rehearsal swings with driver that the Mevo will sometimes pick up the club head and spit out a speed. But I'm going to buy a small SS radar anyways.

I'm in! I have the Speed Sticks and the Swing Speed Radar (along with a Mevo and Mevo+ (slight golf obsession here)).

I'll get my initial speed later tonight- I'm working late since I'll be volunteering at the Houston Open Thurs-Sun.

Right, but you can't just say "tell me clubhead speed" and get readings. Dumbest thing.

You can find somewhere with enough space, no?

Play with these on course and see if you can get a feel of the actual yardages for each club and especially the gaps between them. It may take 10 or more rounds. A par 3 course is helpful for determining the gaps in the irons and some woods too. A device like a Shot Scope H4 can really help give you your actual yardage on course.
