My Swing (Fore4Days)

Recommended Posts

I've been Playing Golf for: 16 years
My current handicap index or average score is: +1
My typical ball flight is: High Draw on the good days, the problem is my swing seems to change every day, literally new path and flight all the time. These videos are only a month apart each, and for some reason my swing both feels completely different everytime I play. I am a scratch golfer, who looked for more distance, and in doing so my swing became extremely inconsistent and my distance did not change much.
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Short slice or hook. I've always been a short hitter, so I wanted to get some more distance, tried some swing changes like making my swing more upright etc and on the good days like the first video my swing speed will be around 112 and my distance is enough for me atleast, but on the bad days I struggle to get past 105 and it is all over the place. I feel like I no longer know what to change or do, and have honestly lost a lot of motivation. Has anyone experienced something like this before? How can I approach this problem and and hopefully have a swing like the first one all the time?

The first video was taken this summer and the other two are about a month after

With good players, the flaws are smaller and thus high-speed video from the correct angles (including FO) become more important.

I don't think we can see much here. Maybe a little leftward swing path that you balance out with a little too much early extension, but that stuff is common among younger players (especially the EE), but it could also absolutely be why your ball flight changes somewhat often.

So…

  • Good camera angles.
  • High-speed (or "slow-mo") video.

    • It would be nice to watch Covid slowly just fade away as vaccinations increase. Unfortunately the dopes who have refused to get it will dream up some other reason why Covid faded. Or we’re in for another lockdown as Delta and other variants surge and they’ll say, ‘ see..what good is the vaccine any way.’ Again, profound ignorance.
    • Birdied #16 at Quail Brook today. Pulled my drive onto the 15th tee box and got to my ball where a couple of my friends were waiting to tee off, ready to heckle me. Had about 90 yards to the flag and hit a partial GW to 2'. The ball mark was 2' short of the hole from where I was and the ball ended up 2' past it. I don't know if it had a chance to go in; it probably took a hop and spun. I would have never heard the end of it if I didn't hit a good shot there.
    • Shot 85 from the tips at Quail Brook for an 11.1 differential. Hit 9 GIR. I’m starting to drive the ball better and it’s exposing weaknesses in other areas of my game.
    • Played Quail Brook today, birdied 16 in dramatic fashion. New one for the away composite.
    • I will be brief, since others have weighed in and I echo the vast majority of what they've said (plus I love bullet points).  Naga-Waukee War Memorial - 6 A fun course, architecturally interesting Several nice views Walkable Passes the "I'd play here often" test Club at Lac La Belle - 6.5 Great Parkland golf.  I think the score suffered a little because all the other courses were so unique, but if this place were near my house it'd be one of the better courses available to play publicly. Walkable Firm, well-maintained greens with interesting contours Good combination of tough holes and less-challenging ones Not many real recovery options on a bad shot - most often, you're punching out from trees or laying up from a fairway bunker Passes the "I'd play here often" test  Favorite hole: #16 Lawsonia Links - 8 Unique and visually interesting Walkable Well-maintained greens with interesting contours, with play varying based on hole location (2) Par-3's were too long for me to really enjoy playing them Too many blind tee shots Some of the most fun approach shots I've had to play Passes the "I'd drive a couple hours to play here" test Favorite hole: #7 Mammoth Dunes - 8 Visually stunning Walkable Huge greens and fairways Turns out, I really enjoy "resort golf".  Separation value (which @iacas) referred to above is different for a 14-hcp...I liked that a wider range of shots were rewarded, but you still have to hit the ball solidly. Passes the "I'd drive a long way to stay/play here again" test Sand Valley - 8.5 Visually stunning Walkable Huge greens and fairways This is an aspirational course for me - breaking 90 the second day, even from an easier set of tees, felt like a real accomplishment...something I had to work damn hard for.  This is the kind of course I want to be good enough to play well.  At the end of the day, that's what ticked it 0.5 above Mammoth Dunes. Passes the "I'd drive a long way to stay/play here again" test
