Would Japan have gone as crazy if Kevin Na had won?

South Korea might have. But, his family immigrated to the USA when he was a kid.

The most important part of the Masters Tournament has just been decided.  I'm there for the lobster & corn fritters, miso-marinated sea bass and the peach cobbler.

Liver, fava beans and a nice chianti.

I can imagine a hilarious skit with DJ interviewing Hideki in the Butler Cabin. Like when Chris Farley did it on SNL with celebrities.

For a second there I read it as DT.  That could be funny, too.

DJ: Remember that drive you hit on 18?

HM: Yeah. It was 20 minutes ago.

DJ: That was awesome.

HK: Yeah.

Congrats to Hideki - he earned it -  but I think the big story is the young kid in his first Master's outing finishing second. Very well done.

He carried the pressure he put on himself. The hopes of a nation waiting for a man to win one of golf's majors. And now, at last, they all have what they've always wanted.

Over 4 hours for a 2 some. Brutal!

They were even 1.5-2 holes behind the 2nd to last group it seemed.

That said, the closing 4 holes were pretty rough for the final group which didn't help them. They were right on pace with the group ahead of them until the penalty strokes and drops were needed.

ehhh not quite, at least, not off this tournament alone.  7% of that is probably going to his caddie... that's after he pays his taxes too lol.  And given his status prior, he probably had to pay his way to Augusta.

Let's not forget to congratulate everyone who had Hideki in their office pools.

Anyhow, I enjoyed this year's Masters. A lot of folks didn't. I heard a lot of complaints of no star power at the top of the leader board. Which I understand. If you are a casual golf fan or maybe just a sports fan in general I can see where this year would be a little flat compared to last year's win by DJ and of course the year before had the big win by what's his name... Oh yeah, some guy named Tiger Woods.

It’s hard enough finding any in depth pieces in Matsuyama in English, tried Japanese media, there is a lot, but most of it not too detailed. There are some YT videos where you see him talk golf and carrying his own bag. Japanese AI translators not as good as for other Asian languages.

I hear this is going to be great for Japanese golf, last I heard, young demographic is eschewing golf, for reasons I forget. Its cost and elitism I think?

Well at least Horschel can cover the cost of dry cleaning all his white pants.

I like a bit of drama, but good to see that Hideki didn’t throw it away on the final stretch. Great to have Japans first major winner.

Very impressed by Zalatoris. He seems to have the head of a winner if he can keep his game going like this.

There was a lack of the top guys you usually see, but all in all a fun tournament.

On the final round I started thinking about some of the shots we get of the course, more specifically the landing areas of balls after the tee shots. Some of those shots are not all that good I think. If you know thee course you have a good idea of where they landed, but many of them are from a low elevation and you get little to no perspective on the width of the fairway or where the ball is relative to the rest of the hole.

I would have liked to see shots from farther up so you can see better where it is on the fairway, ideally capturing some of the next part of the hole too. Maybe pan and zoom to give a better view. They tend to zoom in on the ball on the fairway, rough or whatever, which shows the lie, but little else.

You know how they always cut away to some guy making a hole-in-one, holing out a long pitch or chip, making a long putt? They're not even in contention. Well, now add to that list, cutting away to Billy Horschel in a creek.

He actually hit a pretty good shot out of there.

Did you see the one yesterday? Not such a good shot, and the ball was barely covered with water. And I noticed he was wearing darker pants...
