when will this conflict happen?..btw, don't rely on the French for anything- look at their track record?....ww2-Iraq-Vietnam-if theyd have taken care of business there you would not have needed to have sent your boys in.

but doesnt war eacerbate the problem here- fundamentalism.

Is this conflict seriously on the cards?..an elected Democrat Presidential wouldn't have such hawkish ideas surely?..i think there are better ways of addressing Iran through sanctions etc. An armed conflict would drag Israel in no doubt and then another serious war with massive consequences.

A Democrat president wouldn't take a hard-line on Iran. However neither of them will bail out of Iraq. I cam imagine Obama getting in there and then a week making a speech, something along the lines of "I hope we can pull out our troops as soon as possible, there have been some major developments in the war (read: classified stuff he didn't know before he was President), but I hope we can bring change, change the war in Iraq, and hope that we can bring the troops home as soon as possible..."

Seriously - Obama uses the word "Change" more than anything else but he has little actual substance - he's laid out a vague socialist healthcare plan, and saying to bail out of Iraq, but that's it. But he won't pull out - he and the other Democrats want George Bush to lose the war--once they're in power they won't want to lose it, either.

France wasn't in Iraq militarily. They were involved with the construction of the Osirak reactor if I recall correctly (the one that Israel airstruck back in like 1981). As to World War 2...well, there's a whole host of reasons why France lost. Vietnam (for both France and America) was a failure at the tactical level more than anything else--both countries halfassed the war, and paid the price.

Not really. Islamofascists want to nuke our cities, kill us, rape the women and enslave the children - and then forcibly convert what's left of us to their backwards extremism. It doesn't matter what we do - they are filled with blind rage and nothing will dissuade them from their perverted worldview. Our only choice is to get rid of them before we have another 9/11. There's been a lot of thwarted terror attacks since 9/11:

December 2001, Richard Reid: British citizen attempted to ignite shoe bomb on flight from Paris to Miami. May 2002, Jose Padilla: American citizen accused of seeking "dirty bomb," convicted of conspiracy. September 2002, Lackawanna Six: American citizens of Yemeni origin convicted of supporting Al Qaeda. Five of six were from Lackawanna, N.Y. May 2003, Iyman Faris: American citizen charged with trying to topple the Brooklyn Bridge. June 2003, Virginia Jihad Network: Eleven men from Alexandria, Va., trained for jihad against American soldiers, convicted of violating the Neutrality Act, conspiracy. August 2004, Dhiren Barot: Indian-born leader of terror cell plotted bombings on financial centers (see additional images). August 2004, James Elshafay and Shahawar Matin Siraj: Sought to plant bomb at New York's Penn Station during the Republican National Convention. August 2004, Yassin Aref and Mohammed Hossain: Plotted to assassinate a Pakistani diplomat on American soil. June 2005, Father and son Umer Hayat and Hamid Hayat: Son convicted of attending terrorist training camp in Pakistan; father convicted of customs violation. August 2005, Kevin James, Levar Haley Washington, Gregory Vernon Patterson and Hammad Riaz Samana: Los Angeles homegrown terrorists who plotted to attack National Guard, LAX, two synagogues and Israeli consulate. December 2005, Michael Reynolds: Plotted to blow up refinery in Wyoming, convicted of providing material support to terrorists. February 2006, Mohammad Zaki Amawi, Marwan Othman El-Hindi and Zand Wassim Mazloum: Accused of providing material support to terrorists, making bombs for use in Iraq. April 2006, Syed Haris Ahmed and Ehsanul Islam Sadequee: Cased and videotaped the Capitol and World Bank for a terrorist organization. June 2006, Narseal Batiste, Patrick Abraham, Stanley Grant Phanor, Naudimar Herrera, Burson Augustin, Lyglenson Lemorin, and Rotschild Augstine: Accused of plotting to blow up the Sears Tower. July 2006, Assem Hammoud: Accused of plotting to hit New York City train tunnels. August 2006, Liquid Explosives Plot: Thwarted plot to explode ten airliners over the United States. May 2007, Fort Dix Plot: Six men accused of plotting to attack Fort Dix Army base in New Jersey. June 2007, JFK Plot: Four men accused of plotting to blow up fuel arteries underneath JFK Airport in New York. March 2007, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed: Mastermind of Sept. 11 and author of numerous plots confessed in court in March 2007 to planning to destroy skyscrapers in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.

You cannot ever defeat an army that fights for pride.

The IRA fought for pride. Now they have disarmed. They simply do not have time to fight anymore with all the economic prosperity that is taking place in N. Ireland.

Perhaps the west could have spent trillions of dollars on foreign propaganda and economic policy, instead of military action for a threat we now know didn't ever exist. Or directed more of those funds to Afghanistan where real threats exist.

Certainly the western countries "Special Forces" could have used a trillion or so to actually eradicate some if not most of the threatening individuals around the world, without letting them know, "hey we're coming to get you, go hide out in caves and make it tough for us to beat you"

The ironic thing is; many of the upper class in the middle east aspire to a western lifestyle, perhaps a trillion or so dollars could have been spent on growing this population, without shoving western society in their faces of course. Perhaps educating the poor and ignorant in that Iraq was once the center for western culture and education for the world, would enlighten a people. Of course not invading them would have helped too.

The world would be a scary place for radicals if trillions of dollars were spent jointly by not just western society, but also the east, to take out the biggest threats.

I hope we can mend fences soon, there are places I'd like to visit in the world that were at on time considered safe, even without declaring your citizenship on a backpack.

ok, i like this thread

so how long will it be before a pre emptive strike on Iran takes place? I presume this will be the rationale for an attack as Bush, rightly or wrongly, has been using this doctrine for the last 6 years since the wtc attacks.

There is already a substantial naval build up in the Persian Gulf so sadly it may only be matter of time....perhaps this will be the last thing he instigates before he leaves office.....only time will tell.

He isnt instigating anything, if you've noticed America isn't the only country in the world who thinks Iran arming themselves with a Nuclear Bomb might not be the best idea.

I am starting to wonder if you have some vested interest in Iran.

no, not at all - i'm just not sure what the international reaction to such an event would be and whether it would be good for the world?

Its alot better than what the other option would be.

The other option, if you were wondering, is Israel. Do you know where it is on the map? Well if you do, just put your thumb over it and imagine it wasnt there. Iran doesnt recognize Israel and have announced that once they obtain the ability thats agenda numero uno. Dont you remember in 81' when Israel bombed an Iranian Nuclear site. If Israel is forced into conflict with Iran, America will be the first to its aid, and rightly so.

thats right but im more concerned about the spill over effect and other countries that may become involved and what the consequences of that may be...a conflict like that would not be any good for Americas or our economy at the moment.

As soon as we get anything that indicates Iran's about to build a nuclear weapon. The media is told perhaps a tenth of what the government truly knows. For now I'll have to put my faith in those in charge rather than a bunch of halfwits who think they know it all (those who continuously rail against "bombing Iran") because they're sadly ignorant of the situation, as are the rest of us.

Hmmm.... Lamebums, is your avatar who I think it is?

Probably.

Whenever Tiger loses

"People think the size of the head is most important. Wrong. It's getting a quality shaft. test different shafts to see which goes the straightest. Also, more degrees of loft on the head is better than less. Eleven degrees is about right."

I just typed about 800 words, then proceeded to delete them all. From what previous posts have brought I think it's better to leave politics out of the discussion, at least for me. Better off left for my blog. However, It is kind of enjoyable to watch others share their views.

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. Did he do any of these things? • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
