I'm a huge fan of a birdie/eagle opportunity 17th hole.

In my opinion every course should have either a short par 4 or a short par 5 as the 17th hole. That gives a chance for some huge excitement with an eagle or birdie on the 17th. Then the 18th should be the toughest hole on the course. That gives a chance for a meltdown or for a leader to falter on the last.

I really like a bunch of leader changes over the last two holes. Some courses lend themselves to that scenario better than others.

The golf was way more fun than the rock concert this weekend. ... Oh, yeah, I guess that rock concert was actually supposed to be a football game.

That may be what passes for "rock" for many these days but not so much for me. Perhaps we need a between second round and third round extravaganza for golf?

The Puppy Bowl had a Kitty Halftime Show. Something like that?

Yeah, I guess maybe I should have said pop concert? ...

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

He's also full of shit (about what Tour players do) and an asshole (I know people at his former golf club).

Not surprised to hear that. I thought there was something wrong with me for not liking him, but something seems off with him. To me, at best, he is another Tom Kite (consistently good, but boring player lacking that killer instinct) and, at worst, another Rory Sabbatini (speaks for itself).

I thought those Michael Stone commercials were a parody to something. Are there people that actually listen to that ‘music.’  When I heard the ‘ One week in April 🎼’ I expected to see a comedy skit accompany it. Wow, just awful.

The back 9 was a lot of fun yesterday. I was hoping that Spieth would win, but he didn't have it yesterday. Koepka being back in form is definitely a big deal for major season, but it's also too bad that he now has as many non-major PGA Tour wins (4) as major wins (4).

The front 9 was boring as hell, though. I watched most of it, and was bored to tears. The back 9 has some holes that make the tournament interesting (15-17, mostly), but the front 9 has no holes like that. It felt like nobody really made a move for 2 hours, until people starting making the turn.

Watched the reply today. Brooks playing on his phone while play is still going on sums his demeanor up. Just does not care outside of what he can control. Very effective state of mind.

Brooks is a bully. My man Spieth out there trying to piece together a round and get a win along with Xander, also watching Hahn collapse was a nice reminder of how much this game is played between the ears. Seemed like once he realized he was leading someone came along and injected straight anxiety into his blood stream or something. Then comes along Brooks with the casual 90+ chip in for Eagle. YOINK! Thanks guys!

The commentators knew this as well. They kept saying Brooks could see the blood in the water.

Was rooting for Spieth but until he gets the big two way miss fixed, he isn't closing.  Putting was much improved.

Was it though? He made two bombs on Saturday - odds are against making those regularly at all.

He gained 1 stroke per round putting for the week, but lost nearly 2 full strokes putting on Sunday.

Round 1: 3.811
Round 2: -0.234
Round 3: 2.430
Round 4: -1.913

I skimmed through round 1 and except for a 24 footer and a 15 footer, he made a lot of shorter putts. He missed a lot of greens, too. He's 80th, up from 119th, on the PGA Tour's SG:Putting stats. He was 105th last year, so, about the same.

Definitely agree with this one. His contention for the tournament had more to do with his iron play and chipping saving his third to last SG off the tee stat. It was fun to see him up there, and I hope we get more of it, for myself, and because pro golf in general feels better when he isn't in the dumps.

Brooks was probably texting his girlfriend - "Hey, I just picked up a cool $1.3 million at the WMO. Wanna go get a burger?"
