Assuming you are right handed, that is a classic over the top, outside in, wide open clubface divot. I would bet you fight one hell of a slice too. You need professional help.

We all need professional help, even the professionals do. If that is a sand wedge divot, that's not a bad club path for a sand shot. Generally you open your stance and slightly cut across the ball which makes it look like an outside to in divot. I will defer to the more experienced swing coaches to verify what I said, but I think it's true. In the sand, you always see the professionals with an open stance, and a somewhat outside to in club path.

I tried getting professional help, however the teacher at the local golf shop does not focus on swing path or grip. Everytime I have gone there he focuses on weight distribution and balance. Even when I start to obsess about my take away, hand position and anything else.
"slide your weight forward and finish"

I had a teacher in another sport say to me once, "do you want to keep talking and try to prove why you're right, or do you want to get better?" I was trying to explain why I was confused about the instruction I was being given.

From that point, I stopped ever questioning that teacher, and I've had more success in that sport than any other thing I've ever tried.

I know there are alot of bad teachers out there, in every walk of life. But almost every teacher I've ever had helped me. If I did what they said.

Quick addendum to my last post...I of course have no idea whether the guy telling you to "slide your hips and finish" is correct or not, and at the very least he should be willing to explain to you why he thinks you should do it, and why he is choosing not to address path, grip, etc. And I also realize you have probably at least tried to follow his advice, without success. I hope you figure out the wedge issue.

So on 1 hand the advice is sound. Proper weight distribution is important, without it the swing is a mess. I will give him that.
However, I am very OCD about my swing and how to do it correctly. I realize there are different variations, but I know what feels good and what works and they are not always the same.

When things go wrong for me, I need to know why. So I had asked if my take away is too inside, is my left arm supposed to be this straight, does my right arm stay close to the body or away, what is a good hint for tempo?

Questions like this, which will pop up on the course after I shank a shot. But instead of offering me answers or a discussion, I was told "listen your not trying to get on tour, so don't over think, find a swing that gets it out there, and play with it".

On grass like that, bounce does absolutely nothing.

You're essentially teed up in that location.

You could do anything you wanted to on a grinder from 0 degrees of bounce to 30s degree with your wedge and it wouldn't affect what happens on a lie like that. Get yourself to some grass where you have a firmish, tightish lie and then you'll see where you are.

I dont take pictures while on the golf course, but from a tight lie, I rip a similar divot.
About a foot long strip of earth!

Well.............are we trying to match a club to a swing or correct a swing? :-)

I use Ping 425 irons (including Pitch and Utility wedge)
My Volket is a 58-12D

None of these make a divot like my 54
Please note that this picture was taken in my backyard, not the course. But this is the deep divot I get with this club. I am going to over to the local Golf Shop, but I am just afraid they will try to sell me the "new" wedge as a cure to all my issues.

So get a 54 with a D grind or better yet get an F grind on both.

I have learned to control the slice by utilizing a strong grip with my left hand. This helps me not to revert back to a baseball swing.
I also end up with more of a push than a slice.

The other guy costs $60 for 30 minutes, but is always booked.

Do you have a "My Swing" thread?  Or an Evolvr membership?  The latter costs less for a month than your aforementioned "other guy" does for 30 minutes and the former is free.

    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
