If you watch the video, it's obvious why I chose to put this here:

Also, seriously…

adbcf128-f190-4610-b040-d466e6abbb42.jpg

And those who know me even a little bit know my "seriously" is NOT directed at John C, but at Alex and Barry.

I'm disappointed this wasn't penalized.

P.S. "Seriously" also applies to calling it a "double eagle." It's an albatross.

Looks pretty clear to me that they broke the rules.  This makes me wonder if they had any rules officials at the event, or perhaps that the organizers overruled any officials.    This also makes me lose a bit of respect for the player, he could have been notified of this (how could he remain unaware?), reviewed the film and the rule, and gone to the officials asking for the appropriate penalty to be enforced.

I suppose its also possible that they talked to player and caddie, and the caddie claimed that she had her head down in the yardage book, and moved away as soon as she realized he was getting ready to play.  I don't see the video that way, her head doesn't move as if she was looking down and then looked up, but they could have claimed that.

Certainly has that look doesn't it.

For a moment I entertained the idea that the caddie just didn't really know what she was doing, but I read she is a former Big Break contestant. She had to know she didn't belong back there.

Good golfers don't necessarily know the rules very well.  I just read that she turned pro in 2011, and was on Big Break Atlantis in 2012, and the Rule changed in 2019.  Her playing career may have occurred primarily during the time when caddies routinely helped align their players, and she was simply doing what she thought of as "normal".  I wonder if there's film of Modano hitting other shots, whether she was doing this all day long.

Looks like controversial sports rulings have followed him beyond his hockey career.

Is this event like a traditional tour event where spectators can call in penalties?

(Although I think that may have changed too)

3, no it wouldn’t. The caddy should have known better.

They did change that a few years back, they say they no longer accept rules disputes from phone or emails.  However, the pro tours have said they have officials reviewing all video in order to find infractions.  I'd be surprised if a celebrity event like this uses anywhere near that level of oversight.

@billchao

In what hockey ruling was Modano allegedly involved?

Maybe he's talking about this…?

But that was Hull, though Modano is right there too, and the Stars also played Bill's team the Devils in another SCF.

As I am also well aware, but Modano benefited from that ruling, too.

@billchaoTrue; in the same way every Dallas Star benefited. I agree that was a terrible call, but Modano did nothing against the rules. He did start the play and get an assist (I guess) that was not deserved. Who knows what would have happened if the goal was (properly) disallowed. I was just wondering if bland Mike actually was part of a controversy of his own doing.

    • I would say your back nine is the second nine you play that day. It's part of what makes getting some of those holes tougher. Or, if 18 holes are played pretty often, out of A, B, and C, and you often play A and C, A is the front and C is the back, regardless of the order you play them in. That way not birdieing C #7 isn't overcome by birdieing the easier A #7 on a day you played it C-A instead of A-C. But, at the end of the day, nobody really cares except yourself.
