end of week update.

Rain rain go away….

Finally able to go to the range in between the rain storms. Did not film incase of rain.

30 mins of Routine at setup, walk through drill, and swing work to find rhythm and tempo with 8-iron and 3-wood.

30 mins on the putting green. Through the gate at putt and along the line. Distance control to a line. And the clock putting drill  made it to 6 ft out.

Monday if no rain teeing off at 9am.

Shot a 94 today! And kept the same ball in play the whole round which is a first ever for me.  Shot a 50 on the front. And a 44 on the back…play bogey golf on the back 9 and pared the 18th! Only 3 putt- 2 times and 2 chips -2 times and no penalties.

yep took a picture of the ball and score card. 3E587C47-ACD6-4239-A94B-B9B1E2B48FF2.thumb.jpeg.71ed3dc71b0a58da773d8ebb2add8882.jpeg

  • 2 weeks later...

A month ago I went an got fitted for a driver. I went with the Ping G425 max driver. Stiff shaft, 10.5 degree -1 inch  shaft length.
Friday it finally arrived! I went to the range to test it out. Things went good.  No major slices. It will at times have strong fade but nothing like before. Saturday took it on the course for 9 holes. My avg. drive is 167yards. (Based on my V1 app) 9 hole avg. Saturday was 212. A 45 yard increase.  But, had 1 drive at 260 yard total and one at 247 yards total. First time ever hitting at those distances.
still working on weight transfer, I hit the 260yards while doing the actual  walkthrough drill while playing.

Before the driver arrived I was at the range already filming my swing Friday. Here are the 2 angles.... yeah I did not get the camera aligned properly.  This is where I am at since August 8th in fixing weight transfer and backswing.

Nothing was working correctly today on the course…  a run of 8, 8, 9, 6.  Yep those are on par 4, 4, 5, and 3 holes. In my head the hole round…..

Sunday update......

Worked on backswing and swing path through the week, still having trouble getting inside to outside path and lots of sway backward during the back swing. focused on keeping hips and head in place.  Ball fight has moved to starting left...or staying left. My assumption is swing path is causing this.

straight left....

On the DTL view, have the camera lined up on your toe line.

Yes and no. Yes you’re swinging left, but the difference in ballflight is from your clubface at impact. Your swing is basically the same as your first videos.

Would it be a good assumption that the club face is more square at impact then? Since swing path is basically the same?

Depends on what you mean by square. Square to your path? Yes. Square to the target? Clearly not.

Face On View
1. No hip turn from A1 to A3

Down the Line
1. Right elbow and hands get no width in the swing. So your arms and club get wrapped behind you.

A poor athletic turn, and a bad backswing position, leads to a lot of compensation to try to hit the club face.

Also, in the future, take better video angles.

Basically, your sequence is off from the get go. You want your hands and chest more “connected” and as @saevel25 said, you are getting wrapped at the top.

Try this. Let your hips open earlier to make the turn easier.

Been practicing this drill and slowing down my takeaway and trying not "over swing" by keeping my lead arm straighter. I've even seen a couple of draws on the driving range today.  I'm sure there is still a lot more improvement needed in my swing. It's just an update is all to see if I'm headed down the right path.

Caddie view of a different swing....sorry it was sunny this morning.  But this is just for the takeaway of the back swing. Did not keep my lead arm straight at the top.

It's two things:

  • Chest has to do more of the work, arms less.
  • Torso, body has to turn on more of an angle (hips, shoulders, ribs, etc.).

My 30-day practice plan has a few good days of drills.

    • Day 205 (23 Nov 24) - Worked with the alignment rod and 7i  in reference to ball position in relation to lead foot on full iron shots, noticed an increase in thinned shots last couple of rounds - better contact with the balls (hard foam) during the drill/swing rehearsals.
    • Have you gone to a fitting? A good fitting will not only give you a clubhead but a shaft, etc. that will suit you.
